I called NICS today to request a UPN. Lady said i'll receive a application in 7 to 10 days. Has anyone gone through the process, also on average how long does a delay take I purchased the pistol on Tuesday was told I could pick it up friday, even in NICS hasn't gotten back to them. What happens if it comes back with a denial? One more thing being we have such strict crazy gun laws in mass I never would of received my pistol permit a few weeks ago if I was banned correct me if I'm wrong the state never would of issued me a permit?

To answer some of your questions:

- Yes, the dealer may sell if there is no yea/nay in the specified time. Even so, some dealers will not let the gun proceed without a Yea from NICS, since they don't get an approval code to write on the 4473 to protect the dealer.

- If it comes back with a denial, you can file a NICS appeal, but it will take a while. The dealer may, or may not, try to screw you out of any deposit ((if any) you have already put down on the gun.

- There are cases in which MA will issue an LTC but the feds consider you a prohibited person. For example, if someone has a post May 27 94 OUI (conviction, not CWOF), it is punishable by up to 2.5 years therefore a federal disqualifier. MA will issue an LTC if the FLRB has restored your MA gun rights, but NICS will NOT accept the FLRB relief as valid, and will NOT remove you from the prohibited person list. (Trust me, this is accurate info). The logic for this is that since the FLRB did not "restore voting rights", you did not "have your civil rights restored", thus remain a PP.

Hey big_d, I also had to get my special number, since every time I tried to buy it was always delayed. The gun shop that I went through had the pamphlet on hand for me to send for the packet in the mail. All I had to do was go to the State Police Barracks to have my 10 card done and sent it in, It would have been back in about a month if I had signed the application. So now I can go in and buy something without having any kind of a delay but I still wonder why I was delayed and never got an answer from them as to why. So when you get it in the mail, call either local pd or state to see when you can have the 10 card done, and remember to sign everything you are supposed to.

Charles.

Did you ever get into a position that they never responded with anything. I've read the NICS check is only good for 30 days thus after that a new nics must be done. Does the UPin really solve all the bs hassle?

Yes my second firearm purchase was a not call back, the 1st and 3rd they called back in like 2-3 days to say okay.

Charles.

Also the gun stores let you come and take possession even if they don't hear back in 7 days. So go in and pick something out, if you are delayed you will just be able to go and get it in 7 days unless told no.

I was told 3 days. Kind of pissed since I'm going to the Springfield shooting range tomorrow and I can't get the gun till friday. Anyone know place I can go shoot for free?
