Ninuvak Island

I’ve watched a few shows about families living off grid in Alaska. Definitely a brutal place to live, albeit a much simpler life.

I was surprised about the law revolving around not cutting trees down for firewood. Out there who would care?

Just watched a muskox hunting video that took place on a remote island in Alaska. It's nasty. It's cold. It's barren. Yet I would still prefer to live there than a place like Boston or New York.

Just got me thinking how we are all wired so differently.
While I hate cities, especially northern cities....Im not wired for cold and dark. NFW.

While I don't love being so close to people down here, long days and tons of sunlight is a very positive thing for me. Sitting on a sunny 65 degree Lanai as I type this getting ready to go fishing at lunch time in the backyard.

You can always get away from people down here there are lots of huge WMA's and state land off the coast to hike and bike and4WD. While the terrain is flat and boring, there is tons of bird and wildlife. FIshing the ponds and beaches early mornings there is no one around at the state park beach 7 miles from me. If Im not doing that Im out shooting sporting clays or something on my 400 acre club.

Certainly not going to retire here, but certainly not going north to cold and dark either, just somewhere with some hills, more country land and short winters.

Some people are really wired as survivalists though...and I get it......I thought more that way when I was younger...marraige and age has softened my ass up.

I dont want to live in remote alaska. But i do enjoy being out in the woods at the camp in Vermont. Im happy with a cook top wood stove, books, and obviously wifi to shit talk on NES.

That being said though i like having the option to enjoy civilization when I want to. Remote island in Alaska doesnt give you much options.
