NOOB M1A ?: Bolt Release

Hi Guys,

I have to swallow my pride and ask this question. I have a new SOCOM 16. I love the rifle and have put about 100rounds through it with no issues. But, I can't get the bolt release to work. Do you push it in or push it up? I don't know if I'm just not pushing hard enough?

Unless it's significantly different than an M-14. I don't think it's a bolt release. I think It's a bolt hold open. Subtle but significant difference.

You probably have an empty mag installed. Remove the mag and pull the op rod handle to the rear to release the bolt.

Well I guess that's why I can't get it to release by pushing it then...So, when reloading I take it you just pull the op rod.

Correct. Quick yank on the op-rod with magazine removed or with a loaded magazine inserted will release the bolt.

Note the location of the serrated pad. The original doesn't have one there. It looks like a nice add on but it might be hard to press.
