I've seen several gun clubs in my area and none are worth my time or aggrivation. I don't understand how some private gun clubs are more "exclusive" than half the golf courses I've had memberships at. One club that is about 5 minutes from me has a membership process that is like joining a secret society. Then they have conditions about your membership such as you need to work a couple of days a month inorder to keep your membership. Seriously? Thats what employees are for, I am joining to shoot and hone my skills, not sweep everyone elses brass up.
And then there are the indoor ranges that people recommend, but the reviews that I find on the internet say otherwise and I wont waste my time and money regardless.
Down in Florida when I lived there, there were no ranges like there are up here. The CT clubs and ranges are put to shame by the ones I used in FL. I could pay $40.00 for the entire day and use the 100yard rifle range, 50yard pistol and then for $20.00 I could shoot trap and get 50 clays with it. I don't know if its the people and business owners up here thats the problem or what. One range I went to here had a range officer who said I had to show him what ammo I was going to use, what firearm I had. When I asked him why it mattered and I told him I am very family with range protocol and whatever, he snapped back at me like an ATF agent interrogating me. Complete lack of professionalism.
So, what I am looking for is an outdoor public or semi-private range in the Winsted/Winchester CT area that has atleast a 100yard rifle range and then an area for trap shooting. A range where I can pay $X amount to shoot, until I run out of ammo. I would prefer a range that doesn't have "paranoid" staff who would be eyeing me while I shoot because they have never seen me before. And I would like to use a range that I can bring my fellow gun-owning freinds to without problems.
I've been needing to sight in two scopes and break in my new 30-30, but I'm not going to pay $50.00 for 2 hours of range time.
If its a private range, I would prefer if it offered competitons as well as rifle and trap shooting ranges. I don't want to go through any of the "member referal" crap either.
Thanks,
Dave
