The Wall Street Journal has a great piece by Mark Steyn on the lamantable state into which the Liberals have driven Canada. Here's a couple of snips.

In April 2002, the Pentagon wished to confer the Bronze Star on five snipers from the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Afghanistan for their service in . . . killing the enemy. Ottawa put the request on hold, relenting grudgingly only after the matter was made public. It seems the Canadian government's main objection was a reluctance to let it be known that our military still, er, shoots people, and extremely accurately. . . .
How terrible! Am I suppose that the Canadian armed forces either don't give any awards vaguely related to combat or that they award cowardice and/or incompetence? :?

At the Washington state/British Columbia border this week, two guys on the lam were hightailing it through Blaine heading for the 49th parallel with the cops in hot pursuit. Alerted to what was coming their way, Canada's (unarmed) border guards walked off the job. For a country whose national anthem lyrics are mostly endless reprises of the line "we stand on guard for thee," we could at least stand on guard. . . .
Sounds a bit like King Arthur when the wooden rabit came flying over the castle walls ... "Run away! Run away!" [cry]

It seems fairly certain that the Conservatives will have a pretty easy job of improving things.

Many years ago I got stopped at the border to Canada with my gf going into QC from VT.

We were held for an hour while our car was searched. (And it was searched good)

At one point, I leaned over to by GF and joked that if they didn't let us go soon, I'd call up some friends at the gun club and we'd take the damn place over. I didn't mean the border crossing, I mean QC.
She wasn't amused.

That being said, I was brought outside to the car and questioned about some "material" I had. A bunch of Dillon Blue Presses and some scratchings with some load data.

The guy asked if I "rolled my own." Yepper. How much you save? It cost me around 3.4 cents US, per round total cost. "DAMN, Can I have one of those, I need to look into reloading."

I laughed so VERY, VERY hard.
My gf was NOT amused at all. I don't think we talked to each other until we got to Montreal.
