The fact is 230 grain ball ammo has a proven track record to be adequate for the aforementioned purposes. It is a good choice, especially for the combat commander which may not reliably function with most hollow points. And it would cost a lot of us more than we can afford to “prove” that 1911 to be reliable with the hollow point of choice. 230 grain ball is proven, and is a good round. Would a hollow point be even better? Ya, I’d say so. But that’s not to say that 230 grain ball ammo is a bad choice or that it’s not effective. It’s very effective.
