At the LGS today and he has this old 38spl Smith and Wesson police model, 5in barrel or so, for 219.00

The cylinder is heavily pitted from being put inside a damp/wet case and put away in a closet for years. Functions fine, the real shame is its ugly as all hell. He cleaned it up and put some cold blueing on it just to at least make an attempt.

Locks up tight, nice bright shiny bore and is otherwise a good piece. I'm not big on Smiths or collecting them, but I've always liked these old 38 revolvers, and the price seems right, just wanted to run it by someone more knowledgeable.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Grab it. I'd probably offer $200 out the door and pay the 219 if he balks. The days of $200 S&W revolvers are over, unfortunately. Even if it looks like crap, it'll still be great to shoot.

I would buy it. If you don't want it let me know and I'll go get it tomorrow. ; )

I kinda figured you can only go so low on a good functioning S&W revolver so 219 doesn't seem to bad. I don't need it by any means, I've got scads of revolvers. I'm not a collector, but I like nice things as much as the next guy, and man that cylinder looks rough.

On the other hand, I can practice metal finishing and not cry about a botched job.

It would just be a plinker with light 38 target loads

Im on the fence as I've always liked these old school pistols
