Opinions on a WASR/10?

No input on the WASR, but if one of your options is an SAR-1, they aren't a bad rifle. I've had one since sometime around 2004. The two common issues with SAR-1s is trigger slap, which can be fixed by modifying the existing trigger or replacing the whole assembly with a Tapco G2 trigger assembly. I did both to mine - the home mod fixed the trigger slap, the G2 was a nicer trigger all around. The second (but less common) problem was the front sight assembly being canted off to the side. Mine didn't have that problem at all, so I'm not sure if there was a fix for it. Other than that, basic Romanian AK parts. Not the best looking wood, but always fired. Accuracy was okay, I guess, but in my head all semi-autos get compared to ARs. Mine would hold minute of badguy out to 100 all day. Fun to shoot, too.

I used to have a WASR-10. They are total beaters, but they are reliable, and to the point.

Are you just looking for a shooter? Wasr's aren't pretty but as long as the gas tube, sights, barrel aren't canted you can shoot it all day long. Also ask to insert a mag before buying one as sometimes the magazines wobble and it will drive you nuts!

I have one. It goes boom everytime I pull the trigger and prefer it over my 16" AR. Larger round, bigger hole, and I'm accurate as hell with it. If you don't mind the looks it's a reliable gun. Trigger slap on mine as well but that seems to be the case with more expensive AKs up the line anyway. $450 and you have yourself a hell of a rifle. Can't go wrong really.

I think its a great rifle, accurate enough and can take a beating. I would say everyone needs atleast one in their collection.

Long story short, a very close family friend is unloading his arsenal. The thing has barely been used and it looks ok to me. I don't remember there being much magazine wobble at all.

My parents were going to get me something from his arsenal for my 30th b-day coming up and I liked his WASR and the Marlin Camp 9. I kinda like the bullpup stock on the Camp 9 (currently just plain wood stock right now).

I reliable, beater AK sounds like a pretty good deal.

I love my WASR. It isn't going to win a beauty pageant or anything (the bluing job really sucks), but it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. It's been incredibly reliable so far. I feel like I could probably bury the thing in the back yard and dig it up after the apocalypse, and it'd still shoot fine.

The WASR-10 is like a cockroach. Nothing can kill it and it will be around longer than you. I own one and it's been totally reliable and reasonably accurate. As long as it's not going for the "Obama special" price it's worth it.

I have one, my friend has one, his brother has one. we all love out WASR's. I even picked up some polyurethane and finished the furniture on mine and my friend's, it came out great. I got lucky when I bought mine, almost no magazine wobble, and all 3 came with the Tapco G2 trigger installed from Zero Hour. My friend's had a little magazine wobble, but still looks and feels great! Mine is a pleasure to shoot, and I'll be holding onto it for a long time!

I thought they where great when FSguns had them for 229.00 with 2 high cap mags.......The prices are dropping

That's where I bought mine. $275 with 2 hi-cap mags and thumb-hole stock in addition to the regular stock. I put the thumb-hole stock on it and oiled up the wood to bring out the grain. It almost looks civilized now! (according to my best friend, a Vietnam Vet)

AK's are AK's...Nothing can kill them....Never tried a WASR...I picked up a SAR-1 a long time ago.....Lucked out, no trigger slap, front sight was on straight....Watch the front sights on the AK's lots of them are not straight....Trigger slap can be fixed.....Prices should start coming down

I really like my WASR and I don't think I will ever part with it. It was the first gun I bought when I turned 21. One of the magazines that came with it wobbles and causes the gun to jam occasionally but as long as I avoid that particular mag I've had no problems and it's fairly accurate.

If I had to pick one rifle out of the safe to take the pepsi challenge, I'd bet my life on that bad boy.....it won't die. Not crazy accurate, no particularly pretty, but it goes bang every single time you pull the trigger, and it has the image of "don't you dare f*ck with me"....and 7.62 x 39 turns a barrier into light cover.
