Looking for opinions on a pre ban Eagle Arms lower complete with trigger assembly. If it checks out is this a good quality lower; was looking for Colt; however this EA is stamped as 5.56mm; which is what I was looking for. So good or bad; opinions with reasons appreciated. Also what would be a reasonable price for such? Thanks. This forum has so far been extremely helpful in just a few short days.

Make sure it has the white stamp on the mag well to indicate it was a complete rifle before the ban.

I have found the finish leaves a little to be desired. None of the EA lowers I have match any of my uppers exactly. All in all it's solidly built. I would go with them over a small-pin Colt.

Expect to pay $700+

Is there a reason the caliber marking would influence your decision?

Got three of them, all run flawlessly. I'm not a real knit picker about finish and would never pay a premium with regard to it. Function is all I really care about and they function well.

From what I have read it is safe to use .223 in a 5.56 but NOT a 5.56 in a .233 ; increased pressure and such. OK but as I am typing and rereading this I guess the upper would make the difference not the lower. I am new to the rifle arena. LOL. But please correct me if I am wrong. Tim[laugh](at myself)

THREE!! Wow. Good to know. I agree about the finish...if it is really that bad could always get in recoated. Tim
PS-how and when did you acquire them? And if u bought the lowers solo; how much? What would be reasonable today?

You are correct, the lower doesn't impact the 556 vs 223 issue. The chamber on the barrel (so the upper) is what is important. 556 casings are technically slightly different and can be loaded to slightly higher pressures so the rule of thumb is 223 in a 556 chamber is OK but not the other way around.

Where on the magwell would this White Stamp be? What would it look like?

Thanks for the input. Tim
PS-how and when did u acquire it. And if you dont mind how much? What's reasonable these days?

I got it a few years ago and probably paid around $1300 for it but it was never fired and came like new in the box. The price hurt at the time but I'm glad I have it now.

Edit: to clarify, I got the whole EA rifle lnib, not just the lower, lol

Ah, what a grand old thread...

can I just add that when i bought my [Mass] pre-ban Armalite rifle it was "new in box unfired" and I paid what was then an un-godly sum of $1250. The amount was so egregious at the time I never told anyone. Today, not so much.

It wasn't 1500, it was 1400 and I changed it to 1200. So it is okay to sell a preban rifle for +$2000 but when it is missing $500 worth of parts, you can't sell it for $600 less?

It is no different that what I did with my Gen4 Glocks, just added 200 on top of free state prices.

Don't like it? Don't look. Don't be a dick.

That's for real? I seriously thought that was one of the joke threads that EC was getting all worked up about. Jesus.

Eagle Arms is good. It is my understanding that if the receiver is stamped "EA" that is not Eagle Arms, but was built by a manufacturer of lesser reputation.

that whole white stamp is complete and utter crap. If it means anything it just means that it came from the factory as a rifle. If it doesn't have one, it doesn't mean that it was not built up as a rifle by the ban date, it just means it wasn't built by the factory by the ban date. Big difference. . Remember, its not your job to prove it was built by the ban date, its the prosecution's job to prove it wasn't.

If you are ever that deep into an analysis with law enforcement, you have already been arrested and charged and have already retained counsel. So its a pointless "marker". A 4 year old could create reasonable doubt that the receiver might have been built into a rifle by the ban date.

Thank god we live in America where price is dictated by demand and not what people think they should get it for.

Wait, that's changed as well.

Kind of figured as much. I have an Oly preban lower that Oly doesn't even have records of. They had a fire back sometime before the ban and all records were "lost". Prove that bitches =P
