I'm new to shooting, trying to learn with .22's and move up sometime down the road. Have used the forum several times already, just a lot of great information.

I'm Looking for options and opinions for a .22 LR w/ bolt action. Plinking, range rifle for learning and fun. With a budget ~ $250 or less...where would you steer me?

I'm pretty happy with my Savage FVSR. You can get one for around $250, but that doesn't include a scope. My rifle is new and only has about 500 rounds through it, but I've read that once it has about 1000 rounds it becomes even more accurate.

You can definitely find some generic vintage single shot .22 bolt rifle for <$100. Stevens, Springfield, Savage, Remington etc... There are tons of them out there. A lot of them don't even have a serial #, which is a neat throwback to simpler times.

Thanks all. I think I'll hit a couple of the local shops as suggested. I don't mind used, and may be able to get something with a scope. I know a shop nearby that carries Savage, Marlin and CZ...time to compare and contrast.

Good choice. Mine is from the 70's and shoots great. Nothing wrong with used. Most sit in a closet unused for years.

Savage is a good choice at your price range. CZ452/455 is my favorite but more expensive.

Good luck!
