If there are any folks who own USP45 and HK45C I'd appreciate opinions/observations

Aside from controls appearing to be identical and there being some adjustibility in grips on the HK

Tx

I've got a USPc 45. I don't much care for it. The sights are good. The slide stop is correctly placed and generously sized. The DA trigger is horrendously bad. The SA trigger is fair. The safety/decocker is properly mounted on the frame and works in the correct direction. The slide is ridiculously large, resulting in an 8+1 gun that is very large. A Glock 30S is much smaller and easier to conceal. It is reliable and accurate. The HK magazine release is just stupid.

I haven't shot or handled the HK45C. I've heard that it is significantly improved over the USPc 45. I have heard some people complain about pinching their trigger finger between the trigger and trigger guard, but I don't have any direct experience to know whether that is really an issue. It still has the stupid HK magazine release, which makes it a no-go for me.

YMMV.

I'm familiar with the USP with LEM trigger, the USP Compact isnt all that compact at all

I shot a USPc .40 with the LEM trigger (INS issue gun). I wasn't impressed. If it I was going to carry it, I would have it changed to the variant without the decocker, and just carry cocked and locked.

The HK compact is the one I'm trying to dig up info on...appears to be dimensionally slightly less portly than the USP C but I have to see if I can track one down

I do hear the HK45c is improved over the USPc. I wouldn't bother with a USPc -- it just isn't size efficient, which is import to me for a carry gun.

Now I think Derek likes his HKs, so don't take my opinion as anything other than my opinion.

I haven't handled a .45 USPc, but the 9mm USPc is smaller and thinner than the HK45c, and I like the grip better. The grip on the 45c is so smooth, on a fairly big heavy gun it feels like I need to wear gloves. I prefer the full size HK45.

on either gun you can ditch the safety with a $15 part, and have a Sig style - decocker DA/SA with no safety. Think I will do that with my USPc.

Thanks If you convert to a LEM trigger you can also retain the safety if you choose to which is a nice option Gotta get my hands on a couple of the HK's Whats your opinion on the full size HK45 in terms of bulk wrt ccw?

If I converted to LEM, I absolutely would not retain the safety. If you want to keep the safety, then don't install the LEM and instead run it cocked and locked. The single action trigger is shorter and lighter than the LEM trigger.

I actually have experience with LEM while retaining the safety and like it a lot While the "feel" of the trigger is different, the operation becomes exactly like drawing/firing a cocked/locked 1911

If you are going to carry it cocked and locked, like a 1911, then why are you handicapping yourself with the heavier LEM trigger? The SA trigger is shorter and lighter than the LEM trigger and is perfectly safe when used in conjunction with the safety.

The whole point of the LEM trigger is that it obviates the need for a manual safety.

My 2 cents, I had the HK 45C did not like the grip and sold it, It is concealable but I think a little big, I never carried mine. I have a USP full size in 9mm, and a USP compact in .40 I like their grip better. I like the P30 and VP9 grip most of all. The magazine release doesn't bother me, with practice it's just as quick as the ones in the usual place. This is my personal preference. Hope it helps

Thanks

The full size HK45 is huge. I plan to carry it only after SHTF.

I appreciate the comments/opinion on the trigger but the reason I posted the question wasnt really to discuss trigger but rather to see if anyone had opinions on how easily the HK45C is concealed vs full size USP.

The 45c is not only smaller, it's smoothed out for carry, definitely would be easier, plus the smooth grip is better if it's touching skin. Just make sure you're ok with the smooth grip, I find it too slippery in a heavy gun.

I put talon grips on mine made a world of difference.

I have a HK45CT -- I enjoy shooting it quite a bit. It's one of my bigger CCWs, but not a huge deal even IWB. I also have a USP compact in 40 -- I think I like the HK45C more overall, though that also might be a 45 vs 40 thing. :)

I have a 45c and a USPc 45. I know it's supposed to be the other way around, but I prefer the grip and overall feel of the USPc to the 45c. I definitely prefer the texture of it to the smooth areas of the 45c's grip.

Ive handled both USP and USPc and both HK45c and HK45T. While it says compact yeah like everyone says it is far from a compact. The hk45c is still a great gun, and yes with the lack of texture on the grip it can get a little slick once your hands start sweating. The grips are similar to the USPc as in they are both boxy like a small brick, but the USPc will have more of a textured grip to it. Personally the HK45 is where its at. The ergos on that are best around. Able to select 3 different side and rear straps to best fit your hand. While it is a big gun its not hard to CCW as im only 5'10 150lbs and i can tuck it in at 4:30 without a problem.
