Hi all,
Question for you.. Thinking about doing some back yard/ inside shooting and considering an air gun. This would be for target (paper) shooting and not cans. Looking for a decent, inexpensive target type gun and something that is not a replica of something else.
Anybody have any experience with the Russian pump pellet guns?? Is Co2 a better way to go?
looking at the izh 64m.

Thanks!

Crosman has some nice pistols that are made for target/silhouette. The 2300S is a really nice model, and if you ever have a problem they are in the US, so customer service is guaranteed to be better. I have a SSP250, basically an older version, thing is silly accurate. Think before you buy Russian, as nobody in the states will likely service it, even if they will trying to get parts will likely be a nightmare.

Go for it. The IZH-46 has a very good rep as relatively inexpensive target air pistol. Gas (Co2) and pre-charged pneumatic air guns have higher costs due to the required tanks, pump and/or filling costs.

Check out Straight Shooters Precision Airguns as a place to get it. Their prices may be a bit higher than some other places, but their customer service is reported to be superlative.

I owned an IZH-46 (before I owned firearms). Its very nice and very accurate. The only negative experiences I can related are that the rubber seals on the piece you close over the pellet (dont know the precise term for it) tend to fall out rendering it useless (get a dozen spares). Also the trigger adjustment tends to loosen up over time which results in a dangerously light trigger pull.

An observation for indoor shooting is that the IZH does not produce much muzzle velocity (500fps maybe). As a result shooting at solid objects tend to make the pellet bounce back at the shooter. The metal pellet traps were too wimpy for my Beeman so I switched to a backstop with a disposable soft pine board as a backstop....the IZH was giving me some bouncebacks. As the seals I mentioned above wear this problem got worse....sort of my warning to change the seals....just use a pellet trap and you will be fine.

For the $$$ its a great gun.

Thanks!!
There does not look like there really are many options out there in the non co2 world.. I'd prefer to avoid the added hassle and expense of buying cylinders.

Check out Pyramyd Air. They've got a wide selection of pellet and air soft guns. Some are full auto and they have air rifles up to .50 caliber. They also offer free shipping on many items and a "buy 3 get 1 free" deal on pellets. I buy from them often.

This reply is a few years late. Oh well..........Hope you bought the IZH 64m. It is a dedicated 10 meter air pistol that has been used in the Olympics and which has won international competitions. It is a joy to shoot and is so well made that you will be able to hand it down to your children's children with proper care. It is also easy to take apart for repairs--a friend has done this and so claims. This is likely dependent on ones ability.

I have a Crosman 2300S which is a fine piece of equipment. Probably just as accurate as anything out there, BUT the stock trigger leaves a lot to be desired. There are aftermarket kits to make it better, but the IZH has a true, two stage match trigger. Stoli and IZH. Good stuff from Russia------not to be used at the same time. [grin]
