I just got another 1911 last week, this time a Detonics. It's a government size 1911, one of the batch built from parts from the Georgia operation after Detonics moved to Illinois. I finally talked my brother-in-law into buying one, so I ordered one for myself. As luck would have it, the serial number on this one is my birthday, so it's a keeper for sure.

As for the pistol itself... I love it! It's accurate and solid. I detail stripped and cleaned it twice, it had quite a bit of grit in it from the factory. Now it has an exceptionally crisp trigger. I also had to tweak the magazine a bit, the feed lips were bent a bit and it wouldn't drop clean.

About the only parts I'd like to change are the sights, but after a bit of nail polish on the front blade, I think I have it worked out. The laser-engraved wood grips are nice, but I really like my Carbon Creations grips on it.

My brother-in-law and I took both our Detonics to the range today. I have to say, spending 20 years without a 1911 hasn't done much good for my shooting skills. That time hasn't helped my eyesight either. I'll definitely be upgrading the sights (YoBo retro rear, probably SDM gold bead front), and I figure the pistol needs a few hundred rounds through it to break it in. I can't wait to get back into the swing of things, shooting-wise.
