Hey all

So I picked up a ruger mk 2 last night and took it to the indoor range. I absolutely love it, except for the black on black sights.

I imagine it won't be an issue outdoors, but in the low light I was having trouble seeing.

Has anyone tried a poor mans night sight route (nail polish or modeling paint), or have any suggestions?

My model is the standard mk2 so no adjustable sights.

Thanks,

a neon yellow/orange/green nail polish works well if you want to try it. I also use a plain old White Out pen on my MKII sights to give it the white "U" notch at the rear and a white vertical stripe on the front. Works well for me and doesnt seem to rub off very easily. Other options are a Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight for about $20-30 online. There are paint kits at MidwayUSA too or this glow int he dark kit from cabelas:
Cabela's: Glow-In-The-Dark Sight Paint Kit
Good luck.

I don't know what "night sights" are and if they suppose to glow in the dark or what. I used whiteout to get my sights white again on CZ82. It's white, how can you go wrong?

Well I think I'll try the cheap route first (nail polish with clear glow coat) and for doesn't work ill drop some acetone one it and try for a nicer route. I'll post some pics when I fix it up.

I've painted the front sight post on a bunch of my rifles with yellow model enamel. It helps a lot when shooting against a dark backdrop.

If you don't like it, you can always wipe it off.

Careful ACETONE eats most plastics!

I used a gold fine tip sharpie on the front sight. It's okay. The package came with one silver & one gold. I also bought a bottle (4oz) of glow in the dark paint from the craft store (Michael's or Tuesday moring, Jo-anne fabrics) & put a couple layers over it. The glow in the dark stuff doesn't seem to do much, but it also doesn't see the light of day much either.

Haha unfortunately the picture does it ZERO justice. It actually is bright green on the back and Halloween orange on the front. The old mans .357 shows the colors a bit better

I have tried the Glo paint from ebay, over the factory white filled sights. Then a dab of nail polish. The nice thing is that at the range those are reflective, bright white. Don't have any pics from range right now....
