Hello all,

Last week my dad gave me his pre 64 winchester 70 in 300 H and H. The original stock is cracked in a few places so I would like to look for an original replacement. I have found a few on online, but I don't know if they would fit my rifle. I am under the impression that the 375 h and h and the 300 h and h used a longer action or maybe just a longer magazine or is it all the same as a say a 30-06 70. So my question is do I need to look for a stock from a 300 h and h model 70 or will any pre 64 70 stock do?

Matt

I compared the guard screw center distances on a pre 64 M70 300 H&H and a pre 64 264 WM and they are the same.

The 300's stock is cut away a little underneath to clear the longer magazine box.

Thus another pre 64 stock could be fitted.

I had a cheap Bell & Carlson stock on a M70 and it shot fine.

Try to get the cracked stock repaired. Show us pictures of it now.
