Pre ban AR15 mag in post ban AR 15....legal?

I currently own a preban colt AR15 and have about 15 or so preban mags as well. My question is (in NY) can you use a preban mag in a new post ban AR? Anyone know? Or send me to a place with that kind of info? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Wow I was going to be a dink and tell you to google it but I can't find a straight answer either. Best I found was http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/L...+&BROWSER=BROWSER+&TOKEN=53283497&TARGET=VIEW but there aren't any clear answers there either. Closest was the NYC laws that mention any mag over 5 rounds is forbidden but they don't mention anything about pre-ban magazines. Sad to say but you'd have more gun rights if you moved to MA!!

Yes. The NY AWB (nearly identical to the MA AWB) defines "assault weapon" and "large capacity feeding device" separately. Providing both the rifle and the magazines are in compliance with the law in their own right, they can be used in conjunction with each another.

You won't find it anywhere, because laws are generally prohibitory in nature (i.e. prescribes what you cannot do). Anything not prohibited by law is presumptively legal.

Nowhere in NY penal law does it prohibit using a legal magazine in legal rifle .
