Got multiple issues with the sights on my Thompson/Auto-Ordinance 1911PKZ. I've had the pistol for about 11 years.
First of all, I've replaced the front sight twice over the years since I first purchased it because on on both occasions it simply fell off while I was firing it, and it now appears I'm going to need to replace it a third time. This time the front half of the sight somehow broke away from the rear half and fell off.
The first time this happened the pistol was still under warranty, so I shipped it back to the factory to be fixed. The second time, I had a local gunsmith fix it. Has anyone else out there owned a Thompson/AO 1911PKZ (WWII) model and experienced these problems with the front sight? I've considered just ordering an entire new slide from the factory to replace the current one, but then realized I'd also have to order the parts that go inside the slide, to include the extractor, firing pin, firing pin spring, firing pin stop plate, etc. I'm not sure I'd be able to install these parts into the new slide even if I wanted to given that I don't possess any special gunsmith-type tools.
With regard to the rear sight, does anyone know if the one on the Thompson/AO 1911PKZ is supposed to be adjustable? The exploded view of the gun in the owner's manual shows the rear sight as a separate part which would seem to indicate it is adjustable. I've noticed recently (though it may have been like this all along and I didn't notice) that it shoots significantly to the left so I've attempted to adjust it right by tapping on the left side of the rear sight. I've been unsuccessful, it will not budge.
Any solutions anyone can recommend about these problems would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
