My wife is a member of the Women's Defense League of NH and has been asking for a Ruger 10/22 for some time. I picked one up today and was able to pick up the 50th anniversary edition which was based of the winning design from a fan. She intends on doing Appleseed shoots with it. My 12year old daughter will enjoy shooting it as well.

While I was there I was enticed by the 15% off AR-15 sale and bought my 1st AR-15! Can't wait to shoot it!

Its bassicly the same sorta "ghost ring" setup they have on the 580+ series mini-14/30's. Its better than the crappy leaf sight they use on the standard 10/22, but its a pita to adjust windage.

Pretty sure the ring screws up and down. May be best to check the manual, if they don't have updated instructions for yours in the book yet see what the one for the mini sez... I have shot one, but don't own one.

I am still considering getting one. You may be able to use the the tec sight rear sight setup for the pre-580 series mini on it, it looks like they share the same sort of layout, but you would have to contact tec sights about that. I figure its only a matter of time until they have them for it.

My comment about it lacking tech sights is that all the adjustment is on the rear sight and it's not as easy to use. Otherwise it's a fine rifle, and if I could justify buying another 10/22 I would get it ;)

I may pick up a Ruger American Rimfire at some point, though.

I needed another .22 target rifle and had been sitting tight waiting for the appleseed .22 to hit the racks when they announced the rar. Found one a few days later and picked it up. I now have it set up to use a scpoe or my custom irons setup just by switching the stock comb out. Great setup... Leopold elevated rimfire mounts over a Williams peep that mounts in the rear scope base holes and a lyman globe on the front (which I had dovetailed). It will keep a dime sized group off the bench at 50yds.

My NRA special edition 10/22 which I posted before also is stamped 50th Anniversary. Mine is a sweet camo take-down with Williams Fire Sights and a NRA bag.

They are stamping the receivers and laser engraving the bolts of ALL 10/22s made this year with the 50th anniversary markings.

I just scored two of the anniversary models from my distributor. One is for me.

If anyone wants the other one, PM me and I'll get you a good price shipped to your dealer. Or face to face in CT.

Its a great option. The 10/22 has always had pretty basic sights. The actual anneversary model comes with better aperture sights right out of the box. And although the flash hider is useless, the threaded barrel under the FH can be useful.

The FH is great at protecting the muzzle from young kids dropping the muzzle on something hard though. And is great if said young kid at an appleseed shoot dips the muzzle into the dirt while lying prone. And you have the added benefit of being able to add a suppressor if you want.
