New at AR builds, so keep this in mind:..I'd like to put a 5.5" muzzle brake on a 10.5" barrel, which are normally used for AR pistols. I have a low profile .750 gas block, but do I need a pistol length gas tube, or a carbine length one. Does anyone know the actual measurements of each?

Thanks

Find out where the gas port is located. That determines what length the gas system will be. A ten inch barrel can use either a carbine length system or a pistol length system.
Gas tube for carbine is about 7.5 Inches. Tube for pistol is about 3 or 4 inches. This is the tube only. Not the whole system.

I asked this question a few days ago. This pic will help.

this is like the fourth gas tube question in recent memory

Here's the carbine, mid, intermediate, and rifle length. If it's shorter than these you need pistol. I would guess carbine length--pistol is super short.. Sounds like you're going to free float the handguard but if you have one, put a carbine handguard next to the barrel and see if it would fit.

Answers: I just happen to have a 10.5" barrel (don't want to make an AR pistol/SBR) and have a chance to pick up a 5.5" muzzle brake, My motive wasn't a "fashion decision", (Sorry Mike-Mike)tho it might indeed look pretty cool. the person I got the short barrel told me it was for a pistol, so I'm assuming I'll need a pistol gas system, and probably the shortest tube. I'm hoping a free floating 7" handguard will be sufficient to end before the brake, but I guess I'll just have to get all the parts together, (barrel is at a friend's house) and measure!!
thanks for the comments guys.
