Question about Magazines

Are they marked LE only? If not then it depends as some manufacturers used date codes or other markings on their mags and some didn't. Also certain mags didn't exist pre-ban so that's a dead giveaway that they are a no-no here.

However judging by your description of LEO/Government only mags i'm guessing they are marked. All LE/Gov only mags were produced during the federal AWB ban and are marked accordingly. As such they are to be considered during-ban magazines and are neither pre-ban nor post-ban. However possession of those in MA by anyone other than a duly authorized LEO is forbidden by law so for all intents and purposes consider them post-ban high cap magazines.

For reference a "during-ban" magazine will have the following marked on it if it is for US use (non-export as us-produced mags had a different warning if they were to be exported):

Thanks. It came in a batch of mags I got with the gun. It even has a serial number. Can I send it back to S&W or possibly trade with a LEO?

The possession of that is a felony. So no you cant trade with a leo and to do so will probably land you in prison.

Ah, but I do not have it any more, and as soon as I discovered it was a no no to have, I surrendered it to the proper authorities.....I did my civic duty to ensure that that dangerous hi-cap magazine doesn't create chaos and anarchy, which is, I am sure, why we are not allow to have them. They are such naughty things.....LOL

Yes preban sigma mags exist in both .40 and 9mm. Try Collectors Gallery in Stonham, I got .40's there and think I remember he had a whole box of 9mm.

Yes because the second you hand them over to a cop, even if it is a friend, they are going to arrest you and your looking the next 10 years in solitary. Do what any good NES member would do and burn them in your oven and post pictures (yes that has happened).

ETA: You guys need to relax, he has high cap mags not a dead hooker in his trunk.

I've turned over stuff more than once w/o problems.

Then again, Of course, I was NOT not doing something illegal while with items and went to the PD myself.

OMG OMG OMG... In MASS???

But i dont live in my moms basement either.

What if one were to have purchased a used firearm from a shop and one of the 2 High cap mags that came with it is a LE/GOV marked? The shop is legit, and they must not have seen it. What is the best way to remedy the situation?........hypothetically speaking of course [wink]

Call the shop and ask to exchange it? Sell it to a free stater? If it keeps you awake at night, dismantle it and / or give it to the PD... (i.e make it inoperable and chuck at a mall trash can... [laugh]

I wouldn't recommend one post about it online...I would encourage them to follow the law, or at least do their own research about who has (or hasn't) been prosecuted for what before making a decision about how to or not to proceed... but alas I am not a lawyer.
