So....already bough the s and w 642 performance center. When dry firing it I can say that the trigger pull is definately smoother and lighter than my ruger sp101 or any of the other j frame revolvers that the shop had in the case and am completely satisfied that the trigger pull is much better than a non performance center revolver. One thing I notice is the trigger return is gritty........and I have to be sure to pull my finger completely off the trigger or it locks up when trying to fire it again. The trigger return on the other j frames I've tried is as much smoother. Anyone else have any opinions on this.....is it a problem or no?

yes it is a problem. They more than likely lightened the rebound spring too much and didn't do any polishing. Basically a cheap half assed trigger job. There are lots of little parts that need to be fined tuned and polished in order to have a light and reliable trigger job. I would send it to Greg Derr to fix as I have zero faith in SW to do it correctly

UPDATE......spent some time with the 642 at the range. Put 100 rounds of 158 grain FMJ .38 spec, 50 rounds of 158 grain FMJ .38 +p, and 10 rounds of cor bon 125 grain +p hollow points through it. It is a sweet little shooter. After dry firing it about 1000 times before going to the range with it the trigger return smoothed out. I find it more accurate for me than my sp101. .....once I got used to the tiny sites on it. My wife loves it......light and accurate enough for self defense purposes at 7 - 15 yards. Perfect for what it was purchased for! A good buy at $499 IMO.......and the finish and grips look awesome. She will load it with cor bon hollow point +p ammo and carry it everywhere now.........mission accomplished.

Greg Derr did an awesome job on my 642 (std model) and it was cheap money to make it much more pleasant to shoot.
