So I am looking to order my first AR15 from Spikes Tactical, and know I need to get the stock pinned for the specific one that I would like to get. Now, I have shot my friend's A1 AR15 and it was comfortable for the stock and all but the one I want to order has an adjustable stick that I need them to pin first. Do you know what position a Magpul stock needs to be pinned in to be the same, or similar length of the A1 stock? Also, if I want to change this, is it easy to re-pin the stock in another position or will I need to have a gunsmith do it for me?

Thanks,

you can do it yourself if you have right tool. I hope this video can help you out. I remember there is a post simlular like this one on this forum before. :D I believe you can pin it on the 3rd position.

Before buying it you have to make sure your orignal buffer tube is mil-spec or commercial size. :D There are easy to I.D. it.
Good luck sir.

question: are you trying to pin it to be the same length as an A1 / A2 stock? if so, why not just get an A1 / A2

*or*

are you asking IF it needs to be pinned to that length?

i would just order the stock and pin it myself after a test fit. it's pretty easy with a drill and some roll pins. i've done it twice, hell, they are easy to remove too and readjust if needed.

unfortunately, the manuf. like DPMS, S&W will sell the neutered rifles with the stock pinned all the way out, which doesn't work for "most" shooters IMO, unless they are shooting off the bench. i'm 5'11" and use my stocks pinned all the way in or one position out.

FWIW, I don't believe Spikes offers a complete lower with anything other than collapsible stocks.

i'm suggesting he pin it himself. or will they NOT sell to a ma**h*** unless it's already pinned? i've never bought from spikes... only meat-gazed [rofl]

Well that's the thing, I have only shot my friend's A1 on a bench and that was comfortable. Basically I do not know at what length it is going to be most comfortable for me. I am almost thinking about just trying to get a preban first and see how I like to shoot it, then order the spikes tactical one I have been eyeballing possibly.

I will be ordering it as a complete rifle so I would need to have it pinned prior to getting it. Unfortunately the FFL's around here that also are gunsmiths aren't be willing to order it and then have it pinned by them then transfer it to me so I can see how each position feels tucked into my shoulder.

Tell me again the reason for a non-adjustable adjustable stock?

[rofl]

for me, it allowed me to have an M4gery... with the stock pinned, all the way in.

or a non-gay M&P 15-22 [laugh]

the first thing i did when i got my M&P 15-22 was drill the roll pin out and re-pinned the stock in the "in" position...

a carbine is just that, my rifles have A2 stocks on them. [wink]

They will pin it for $10. See if they will send it to your FFL unpinned, and have him pin it where you want it. Or for that matter, have them pin it to the length of the fixed stock.....

As long as you have to pin an adjustable stock I don't see any reason in buying one. I have Ace skeleton stocks on a couple of my ARs and find that they are an excellent fit. they are a good deal at about $80.00.

Well, if he is buying from Spike's, that's all they have.......
