R&R Sport Shop

Stopped in today and they were ok till they found out I was waiting on my class A to come in.. After that they petty much ignored me. Not sure if I will go back or not.

I was in R&R about a week ago and overheard the guy who seems to be in charge when Richie is away say that they will not be doing any more transfers for customers "due to the liability".

This is becoming an issue in NY, where FFL transfer/NICS check will be required for private sales. The legislature expects FFLs to provide this "service" for ten bucks. Many retailers are balking, including Dick's, which is not (last I heard) prepared to participate in the scheme, as well as some other large retailers.

I can confirm as of 1 Jan they will not do any more transfers. (my wife asked them yesterday as we are shipping some rifles to TX. )

I owe you a beer for saving me a visit to their shop, and ever spending a dime there.

Thank you for posting.

No they will not.we will be using Nicks if we ship. We have no other issues with R&R I have recently bought 3 guns from them and had no issues. it was a business decision on their part not to do transfers.

Joey and Dave at Personal Defense Specialists in South Hadley might be able to help you with this also.

We all have our opinions right? I've been in there over a half a dozen times since fall, bought ammo here and there, bought targets, etc. They have always been pretty snippy with me and I'm a real easy going guy. Apparently they have me confused with a hoarder or someone else who is gobbling up all their ammo. This last time today went like this:

Me: "Just stopping in to see if you have any 22LR"
Him: "we can sell you one box" <he pulls out a little pill box of 20 or whatever tiny size that is>
Me: "oh cool, you have some, how much is a box of 500"
Him: "no we can only sell you that one box, we are rationing it out"
Me: "oh because I was in here a few weeks back and bought a brick of 500"
Him: "well then you don't need anymore"

really? My one eyebrow went up and I just started walking away. Told him 500 rounds goes pretty fast if you have a couple of 22's.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first few times, I'm not going there anymore. I'm still trying to figure out how all I read is great things about this place.

Honestly depends on the day and who you deal with. This being my local shop, I visit and spend a lot of money there. The owner is usually grumpy, but if you talk to the short chubby guy with glasses(Paul) your all set. Very nice and very smart guy, type of guy who will spend the day with you explaining something. Also the lady cathy ( Richie's wife) is always very nice. I grew up going to R&R and I've seen nice guys grumpy and grumpy guys even uglier than ever before. They will give you deals tho. Like said in previous statements the 1 box limit is pretty serious, my buddy bought a new M&P 15 and Richie gave him 3 20count boxes of 5.56 with his purchase. All depends on the day.

Richie is knowledgable for sure. I've been dealing with him for 25 years, since I was a pissant little 5 year old kid trying to catch the shiners out with my hand. Caught shit for that on more than one occasion.

However, if you catch him on a off day (read: painful) he can be rather curt.

Upside is, he doesn't feed people lines ever. You always know EXACTLY what he thinks, for better or for worse.

Every gun I've bought or sold was through R&R.

Stopped there today to see if they had a few small items I needed.

Still a fair amount of long guns on the racks, but the handgun cases are EMPTY! (maybe 2 dozen guns?)The only thing I saw which caught my eye was tagged as a S&W M65-1 (651?), 2" barrel, in .22 Magnum.

Sported a tag that indicated it was used and the price was only $950.
