Hey Folks,

I am looking to join a club within 20 minutes or so of Franklin, MA that ,ideally, has indoor and outdoor ranges, offers training classes and has any sort of stocked pond for fishing.

If anyone had any suggestions or information it would be appreciated. Also, if you have any insight on the culture of the particular club that would be helpful as well.

Thank you for your time and help.

Hopkington Sportsmans Association

Pretty laid back facility. Not very touchy-feely but a nice group of people. Very nice facilities, not too crowded. The 5 round limit on the indoor range is a PITA but the new president is working on getting that changed. The indoor has a new ventilation system that works great - 5 guys shooting and you don't even smell the smoke.

Very nice outdoor ranges - skeet/trap and rifle. Rifle is 100yds with target berms at 25, 50 and 100.

Stocked fish pond

Nice clubhouse.

The current pres (he's been in office for a couple of years) main shooting activity is USPSA/IPSC matches, so I would rate the chances of meaningful range rule changes as somewhere between high and excellent.

He's currently trying to work on the details of range rules that would allow full capacity loading and drawing from the holster.

I meant new as in 'he didn't write the rules' & I agree with your assessment.

Did I meet you at one of the Wed night shoots? Your name looks familiar.

I'm a member at Hopedale which is a 24/7/365 indoor 50 ft 8 bay range, no rifle over .22 allowed. I'm also a member at Maspenock which has a nice rifle range, an awesome trap range, hunting grounds, stocked fish pond, and indoor .22 range.

Wrentham has a very nice stocked pond but no indoor range or any real training to speak of.

Mansfield has two outdoor ranges and an indoor range currently under construction. There is some training available but no stocked pond.

Wrentham also has trap, archery and does a lot of social activities especially involving food. Game dinner, duck dinner, porkettas etc. Italian night every Wednesday and fish night every Friday.

Mansfield has a river running by it and people fish there. IIRC someone at the club may have stated that some state entity may stock it, not sure. Ask in the MF&G thread and 50BMG (club president) might have an answer for you.

I gave up fishing as a kid, couldn't catch a cold! [smile]

The club doesn't run training of any sort. There are club members at MF&G who are trainers. Some use the club for the training location and some use other facilities. You will find this to be true at probably every gun club in the state.

Mansfield has run "training" programs. Have run various GOAL training, self defense, home defense, range safety officer, as some examples.

FID/LTC classes.

Shooting events for the public, such as a youth shoot is being planned...

I have been a member of Fin, Fur and Feather Club in Millis for 15 Years. Great club and on Rt 109.

I am in Medway and am thinking of checking this club out. Interested in pistol ranges. Do you still recommend it? Membership open, looks like it is per the site? Thank you very much, John
