Finally got some time to shoot my new G19.

I had sights put on it by the place I bought it from.

Took it to my clubs pistol league (prob not the best idea since I have never shot it before)

Gun felt good but I did horrible at the shoot.

Stayed after and put 150 or so rounds through the gun.

Everything was left 3-4" from 5-10 yards with good groupings. I tried shooting from 15 yards and i wasn't even close.

I just started shooting about 6 months ago and i'm pretty accurate with my smaller Kahr PM9 and much more accurate with my Beretta 92. (even at 25 yards)

Does anyone think i'm so far off due to the new gun and I just need practice? or do you think the sights may be off?

I am going to see if my Dad will come shoot with me tomorrow and see if it is just me.

If you're getting consistent groups all about the same, it sounds like the sights are off a little. Don't know what kind you have on the Glock, but it should be a fairly simple process to drift the rear sight over a touch to get things grouping where they should be.

Also check your trigger finger placement on the trigger.

Dry fire
practice
IMO glocks are a little unique. Require some extra practice but have faith you will come to like your G19 just be patient.

You're right handed, correct?

It's you, not the gun. Low-left is typical for new shooters with Glocks. Trigger control on Glocks takes a lot of dry fire to master.

Nope, don't do that. New right handed shooters will always be low left with Glocks. It is the shooter, not the gun.

I rented and shot, for the first time, a G19 from Mass Firearms recently in anticipation of loving it and buying one. To my surprise I was underwhelmed. Didn't like how the finger grooves on the gen 4 lined up over my fat fingers or the grip angle.
It's a great carry size and like that you can find standard cap mags but I'll stick with my M&P's.

Is your dad familiar with shooting a Glock?

I've been a 1911 guy from day one but I have owned a G19 for about 10 years. I'm pretty much dead-on with it but when I get lazy, even I'll shoot low left. It's not like a nice light 1911 trigger, but once you learn how to manipulate it correctly, stock Glock triggers aren't that bad at all. Definitely practice dry firing and watch those sights closely to see what they're doing when the striker breaks. You'll learn your problem by doing that, and hopefully quickly learn to remedy it.

So went to the local Gun Shop today and they laser bore sighted the gun for me. They said it was a tad off. (rear sight)

Went to the range and put about 100 or so rounds through the gun.

I'm still off but I seem to be getting the hang of the gun.
Any other suggests for a better accuracy. I had ok groupings (for only shooting 6 months)

I seem to be constantly off....

Not sure why the pictures turned sideways but the lettering should be on the bottom.

I was low left and then just left later in the shoot.

All shot from 7 yards.

I have posted this before, and i know it helped at least 8-12 different shooters. I had the same issue as you, i watched this video, figured out my grip, and now i can hit anything with my glock.

You are not going to see big improvements in your accuracy with the Glock in one range session.

Do a 25 cent trigger job. Replace the horrid factory sights. And spend a lot of time dry firing. After a few weeks of dry firing every day you will see improvement.

It may have to do with the MFS Glock. Same with me. I just never liked the trigger and thought that it was just the striker fire that I did not like. The trigger was just way too mushy.
But then I tried and eventually loved the Shield, and bought one. I also liked the Ruger SR9 and got one too.
So it must be the MFS rented Glock 19 :) I was much better with the MFS rented Glock 26, but still liked the crispier action of the Shield, which almost feels like a SAO action.
On the Glock, when I try to take off the slack, I fid it difficult to to feel when the striker will go off. Maybe that is a good thing, but it is not for me.

What the crap are you talking about? The glocks trigger is all about predictability. The triggers starts off mushy, you hit a slight wall, move past that wall and BANG. Its more predictable than Obama trying for more gun control.

My first gun was a Glock and I can ring steel at 100 yards with it. It really is a strange trigger if you are coming from a Beretta or 1911.

Once you master it, you will be fine. As has been said, dry fire it and watch the front sight.

Practice, practice, practice

With so many Glock lovers everywhere, I am sure they are fine pistols, and a G34 may be sometime in my future when money is not the issue. It might be my "crap" (as you so nicely put it), but as I said .. on that particular Glock 19 at MFS, I did not feel it was predictable. I have no problems with my Shield, or my SR9, or with the Glock 26 I occasionally rent from MFS.

25 cent trigger job was done yesterday and the factory sights were replaced.

Thanks for all the info.

I shot with my dad last night and he experienced the same type of erratic shooting with the Glock. He was pretty dead on with my Kahr/Beretta.

I think it is just a feel/trigger change compared to the other guns. I even put in a tungsten guide rod and noticed no difference.

I put about 500 rounds through the gun this week. Also put around 300+ rounds today in a Handgun II course at my local range.

It's getting there. Still going to need some more seat time but my groupings are getting better and better.

Thanks for all the info and I am still learning as I go.

I have a similar problem, but I know it's due to a less than desired trigger pull( my fault).... Dr.Grant can tell you, at 20ft I was constantly grouping to the left of the bulls-eye, it wasn't until I slowed down, and pulled the trigger like I do dry firing that more started hitting the center ring.

This sounds pretty normal to me. You need practice and to really focus on fundamentals. When I was newer to shooting and started shooting Glocks, I would often pull groups to the left. If you're shooting consistently 3-4" left, it's either you or the sights.

Forgot about this thread.. So I had my instructor at my club shot my G19. It was off(Sights) went back to the original gun shop and they fixed both front/Rear sights. It is now actually shooting good (i'm still getting used to it) but it was the sights that were off making the gun shoot left.

Just thought I would followup.

You shouldn't be modding the gun imo and it doesn't take hundreds of rounds to learn to shoot it. Your money is much better spent on an hour with an instructor. After learning to shoot on revolvers and 1911s, I couldn't hit anything with my Glock either; Stu from Cloverleaf had me shooting bullseyes in no time and with less than a full box of ammo; he also sent me home with a list of things to practice on my own. If you're inaccurate with your G19, it makes no sense wasting ammo practicing doing it wrong, imho. Good luck!
