Don't know if this is the best place to ask this or not but I figure someone here will know.
What's the best way to keep fresh picked raspberries from going bad?
Leave them out on the counter?
Put them in the fridge?
put them in the freezer?

I ask because my son loves raspberries but he's down in Fla. at the moment. I just picked a bunch of them and want them to last for another 3 weeks at least so that he can have them when he gets home.
Thanks all for any help/suggestions. [grin]

Eat them and pick some more in 3 weeks.
I don't care much for them. I'm waiting for the Blackberries to come in. [grin] Plus they might be gone by then. Not sure how long they'll stick around.

Dehydrate 'em?
Not very good for just eating, but great for adding to stuff.
Another good idea, thanks.

We freeze them. Put them on a cookie sheet in the freezer until they are frozen solid and then dump them in a freezer bag. Do not wash them first. Ideally when you take then out you leave the bag in the freezer and just scoop out what you need. We have found that it is difficult to vac seal even the frozen ones as they can get crushed by the bag. We keep them for up to a year that way. Might keep longer but we toss them to the chickens when we get the next crop in.

I already froze them by using the directions linked above. It's the same thing that you do except they do get washed. Why don't you wash them?

I dont want any more water on the berries that will freeze. If we do wash them we make sure they are dry before we freeze them. I tihnk the extra ice/water can affect the taste.

I'll be over to help eat the raspberries. And the blackberries.

Along the same vein:

I have some "Volunteer" black raspberries, and I want to propagate the plants - they are hardy enough to just show up, and seemed to bear well, especially as they were free.

Has anyone done cuttings, or layerings, or what with them. I've done some google-fu, but first-hand answers are better.

They will propagate on their own and you will be over run.

They're very rugged & hard to kill - just dig some of the extras and plant them where you want them.
Keep transplants well-watered until established.
