So I am thinking about reboring a older Remington 760 in 30-06 to 35 whelen. What do you think ? would it be better to find a factory barrel or is there a local gunsmith that could do this ?

I'd have to believe that a factory barrel is the only way to go. Boring and rifling a barrel has got to be crazy expensive.

BTW, I have an old 1917 Enfield my granddad sporterized and converted to 36 Whelen Improved. I'm comfortable with a 30-06, but there's something about the kick of that Whelen that leaves me with a headache after a dozen shots.

Reboring makes sense if you want to keep an original barrel with old markings out something. Used to be common to do this on old Winchester's.
A 760? Rebarrel it.

P.S. 35 whelen is a great choice. Im building one now.

Thanks for all the info I am going to start looking around for barrels but it's good to know some one can do it if I can't find one.
