I am hoping someone would be able to recommend a gun club and sponsorship in the Plymouth MA area. I am currently a member at MRA in Woburn... Any help is appreciated;-)

I’ve been a member of Old Colony for a year February. I’ve been very happy with that choice.

Great shotgun facilities, 200yd HEATED outdoor rifle house (really!) black powder and primitive, 100/200 yard outdoor rifle and SEGREGATED 50yd pistol range, archery and tomahawk/knife course, IDPA pits...
the only thing that OCSA lacks is an indoor range.

Sounds good and it looks like the indoor range is in process
Thanks for your input.

Are there any Plymouth Rod and Gun club members out there?
I was a member but left 3 years ago. Sorry if this offends certain members but I had horrible experiences there from day one. I don't ramble on about my experience or act like I'm an expert in any area. My military and other professional training shows in how I conduct myself. I'm also a fairly private person but dealt with a number of imbeciles over the few years when I was a member.

This showed in examples like admins eyeing people on the line like teachers supervising someone at detention that did absolutely nothing wrong. Saturdays and Sundays were always the worst. A few regular members are worth mentioning too. However, we are all adults after all and if a person acts like a fool then he/she should be booted. Leave others alone. PM if you want examples but I'm not going to ramble here. Great facility (one of the best for shooting options) and the money does go back into it but I left there like my @ss was on fire when I moved and decided to look elsewhere in the south shore for better options. I found two.

Thanks for your candor... are there any clubs you could recommend on the south Shore or Cape?... Indoor range and 200+ yard rifler range are preferred amenities

I can only speak from experience about two others. Those are Sippican in Rochester and Woodcock in North Dartmouth. Both are great but not sure about space for new members. I've heard good things about Pembroke like what was mentioned.

I’ve been shooting my whole life, but joined my first club a year ago. I was completely unaware of the divide between traditional “sporting” firearms and modern military based weapons. I don’t care what you enjoy shooting, I support your right to do it and would never dismiss anyone’s chosen discipline. There are those however, that don’t think anything with a removable magazine belongs on a firing line. Those that think drawing from a holster and shooting on the move is dangerous and shouldn’t be allowed. There are members of my club that feel this way. Luckily, there’s enough support for action shooting and modern rifles to allow their use.
Just something to think about that had never occurred to me before joining a club.
You may not realize this until you take an AR out of its case on the line. The other shooters are scowling at you and they’re all behind bolt action rifles.

I highly suggest a bit of a drive to Taunton Rifle and Pistol. I miss the place (moved out of state.) Great group of people, good facilities, wonderful ethic. I always found it worth the drive up from cape.

You bring up some good points which I never really considered. Definitely a very dated mentality by those who would have that bias and do more to show it but I get it. I have my own, without a doubt, but I've always believed strength in numbers and respect for others without pushing my beliefs on them as well.

I’ve been a member of marshfield for some time. Very clean club, nice indoor range, 200yd outdoor. Lots of families. A bit Fuddy, but isn’t that everywhere in MA ☹️

Old colony sportsman’s association,
Monument beach sportsman’s association,
Marshfield rod and gun,
Hanson rod and gun,

f*** Plymouth rod and gun, only reason to join is the indoor range but all the rules and the good ol’ boys club makes it suck. Don’t waste your time or money.

indoor range is under rebuild last a peaked in there looked like it was coming along. Its slow as its being done as much as possible by member volenteers and IIRC way under budget

OMG wait to you see the pistol vs rifle vs trap vs skeet vs Jr shooters "darn kids!" politics, ohh and the best are the range specialist who tell you you cant run XYZ ammo through ABC guns.
I love it when someone gets all panty twisted over cast bullets in a M1 garand or AR or shooting 22lr at 200 yards

So glad I'm not the only one to have issues with so many goofballs over there (trying to keep it verbally PG...I'd get booted if I typed exactly how I felt). Great facility run by the wrong people.

I'd join old colony just for the breakfast sandwiches and the nice facilities would just be a bonus. I was really impressed with the ranges there. 20180217_081518.jpg

Prices are great also , wife,3kids and myself out the door under $40. Hash and sausage and gravy are my go to.
The dinners on Monday meetings is generally very good also.
Funny and sad but I go there more for breakfast than to shoot. Kids are not interested wife can't careless so its a fight for me to gt there

My comment was not club specific , some are worse than others but "politics" thrives at all clubs. Some are just better at keeping thier mumblings out of ear shot.
There are clubs for shooters and then clubs for those who talk about shooting. When I looked into Plymouth I felt like the later and that was 20 years ago.
I not been to many clubs in this area for sometime. I'm a member at both Hanson and Pembroke for different reasons.
Plymouth County

Carver Sportsman's Club
Fin, Fur, & Feather Club of Mattapoisett
Hanson Rod & Gun Club
Marshfield Rod and Gun Club

Old Colony Sportsmen's Assoc.
Plymouth Rod & Gun Club

Satucket Rifle & Revolver Club
Scituate Rod & Gun Club
Sippican Rod & Gun Club

Standish Sportsman's Assoc.

I was about to start a new thread looking for a sponsor there until I found this. After waiting for a year on the list I finally got an email from Plymouth RG. I exchanged few messages with them and I didn’t get a good feeling. I am a member of Sportsman in Pembroke but Plymouth is closer.

I'm a member there and it's pretty fuddy, but not very busy. I have had the range to myself virtually every time I have gone there. Sometimes there are people hanging out not shooting in the clubhouse where the indoor range is in the afternoon, and on weekends they have morning skeet/trap/clays but after noontime It seems generally dead.

Saw something about possible changes to the outdoor range. Requiring a range officer because of target frame damage, but if that becomes a thing I will likely be gone since I don't feel like only being able to shoot when some volunteer shows up to watch me. The other dumbass rules (No more than 5 in a mag, no drawing from holster, no rapid fire) would probably be enforced at that point too, although I don't know if they are now as nobody is ever there.

I haven’t heard about having a range officer, I hope not. People don’t volunteer because they’re always told “no you can’t do that” and the ones that do are part of the problem creating dumb rules. I hope it’s not true.

I am looking for a sponsor for both the Marshfield Rod and Gun and Taunton Rifle and Pistol club’s... I am happy to provide transportation to the club(s) as welll as any ammo needed and lunch after the club tour.
Please email me at [email protected].

Thx everyone for your advise and Happy Holidays.
