I have been shooting static steel lately with a built up 10/22. Rifle runs like a top, but the $20 zero magnification red dot can use help. I am looking for suggestions, the only thing is i don't need something that goes for more than the rifle. What's out there?

I put a PA micro (T1 knockoff) on my 10\22 on occasion. Honestly for plinking, that thing is as good as it gets, IMO of course.

I tend to avoid low cost optics. I have had good luck with the Burris "Fast Fire" dot scopes. Great sight for about $220.

C-More STS. I have one on one of my 10/22s. I've run it on my AR, and my Ruger Mk3. I think it was ~$280 when I bought it a few years ago.

Cool. I am leaning towards the pa. I just have trouble with the price on the burris. It may be more scope than I can reasonably use in a $180 rifle

And of course out of stock. Keep those suggestions coming

I use a cheap Aimpoint clone sold by Primary Arms on my .22 steel rifle. It doesn't hold me back. Any red dot that will hold a zero should be fine - it doesn't really need to be battle hardened to shoot a steel match.

Another +1 for PA red dots. Have one on my Buckmark, and my MAK-90, and never had any issues. Highly recommended. Even got a buddy at work to get one for his AR, he's a big fan of them now.

How far away is the steel?

I ask because at my club in CT, I used to shoot indoors at 25 to 50 ft. At that distance, I tried a red dot vs a 1-4 scope and it was a wash.

At Mass Rifle, we shoot steel at 50 yards with rifles. At that distance, the 1-4 set somewhere around 2.5x is vastly superior to a red dot.

Good question. Our rifle steel is at 100 yards so I assumed that was the distance.
If you are at 50 yards go with the PA. If you are less than that just close your eyes and point.

I think you are best off with something like this.

Thats what it is.

There are other less expensive 1-4 scopes out there. I'm a big fan of Nikon stuff. I think they give the best bang for the buck. All except for my long range scopes are Nikon.

If you are interested in the idea of a 1-4 but don't want to spend $280. Here is another one:

You can also get on chat with someone on optics planet and usually talk them into a 10% off coupon.

MSANT - if you are a MRA member, why don't you meet me there some night after work. I've got a couple of 1-4 scopes, a real aimpoint Micro T1 red dot and a $89 Bushnell TRS25 that is a lot like the primary arms red dot others have recommended.

You are welcome to try them all out. PM me if you are interested.

I have a Burris Fastfire 3 that I will be selling. It is new, no box or papers. I came mounted on m Ruger mk III that was also new without box. It is a 8moa sight with rail mount. $160 shipped.

I'd agree with the guys saying for 100 yards get a 1-4x or 1-6x.

I shoot 100 yards at Westford with my AR and have a Vortex Viper 1-4x PST and it's perfect for me at that range (old, eyes are going!)

I shoot 300 yards on a buddy's land up in NH and 4x puts a strain on me (we shoot 4"x4" plates and 8" & 12" gongs). I much prefer my AR-10 with the 4-14x FFP for those little plates.

Primary Arms has some really nice choices, and +1 to Nikon, too. Great bang for the buck.

I recently picked up a Nikon P-223 3x32 fixed power and I am very pleased. Excellent value and perferct for .223 out to 200 yards for me.

Nikon also has a promotion for free scope rings w a scope....their rings are also very high quality for the price.

this is my first nikon scope but i will come back for more.
