As noted, I have a stripped XM-15 reciever (thanks for helping me identify it) but the finish is in tough shape - it was kept for a while in a moisture rich enviornment (basement that flooded) so I'd like to refinish it.

I was looking at Dura Coat - anyone have any experience with that product? Anyone have any alternate recommendations?

I am also looking at refinishing an old pistol I have. I have been looking at Duracoat, Alumhayde II, Cerakote and gunkote - not sure which is best. I do not have access to a blasting cabinet. Can you just get down the steel, rough the surface with emery cloth or scotch brite - spray and bake (or not) as directions recommend?

I have a gun that has duracoat on it. Not an AR-15 but it does seem to be pretty solid as far as finishes go. If you were looking to go that route I am sure zero hour arms in MA could do that for you if you are within a reasonable range of their store.
