Hey everyone,

Just a quick question...does (or has) anyone have a Remington Model 510 .22 LR? My mom has one and it's about 40+ years old. I know it needs a good cleaning (I have a new cleaning kit for it) and possibly a little more work. It's going to be a late Xmas present along with perhaps an 1860ish Colt Naval Officer's revolver (possibly a .454 cap & ball). I was curious if others had this rifle and what, if any, problems they had. It has a cheap scope on it, I will probably rip that off at some point, it's not great for precision shooting. If Santa brings me my LTC that will be a nice gift! [laugh]

Just wondering! [grin]

My father learned to shoot on a Remington 514, essentially a cheaper version of your mother's rifle. Single shot, bolt action, open rifle sights... Your 510 has a better built receiver and bolt, and the safety is located on the side of the receiver (the 514 safety is a knob at the rear of the bolt).

I'm in the middle of trying to solve an extraction issue with the 514. My father had lost the original bolt years ago, and a friend of his arranged for a new bolt. Since then, it has some problems extracting spent brass.

It is a very well-built old rifle. My dad shot his for years. I remember him telling me that my grandfather was a Scoutmaster and would set up an old mattress in the basement as a target for the Scouts to practice their firing. I guess the old mattress was a ***** to move out of the house, it was so full of lead. [laugh]
