Rewiring water heater

Hi,
I want to rewire my portable water heater to have the on/off switch inside my trailer. Currently the switch is in the water heater housing which I don't like. The easiest way is to run a new switch wire from inside to the heating element and keep the switch at the water heater in the ON position at all times What bothers me is what else does the on board on/off switch controll, like the thermostat or some safety censor.
Would appreciate y'all's expert advice before I burn my camper to a crisp.

Are you sure that there isn’t already a switch in the trailer?

My last two units had a switch inside. One in the bathroom, and the last one was at the control panel.

Are you talking about a portable water heater like this? What year, make, model camper are you talking about? Maybe I'm a little late to the party. Did you ever figure out what to do?
