Anyone have a line on a cheap rifle crate? I’ve become the default unit armorer for my WW2 group. Getting hard to fit 6 rifle cases in my GTI. The crate would go on my hitch tray, so size is not an issue for me.

Im pretty good with tools , but lack the time patience or determination to build one from scratch.
If there where decent plans I would build some like I did with the ammo crates.

A guy in my unit built this one from these plans I found. Designed for 6 M03A3

Do you have the complete plans?
would that work for you?
I picked up a replacement table saw yesterday and I would attempt one
Im going to attempt a few different ammo crates soon before it gets to cold.
Mind you Im not a carpenter. So anything I do will have its flaws but Im picky about making things solid.

Brian, that would be great if you could do this for me. The crate made its debut (in front of the Zelt) at Collings last weekend.

Slight modification to the design, I would need a little slot between the middle rifles to store a 29 inch cleaning rod and a slot for a RG34 cleaning kit, a Bakelite butter dish with jag tips and such, and room for a thumb oiler.

If you can work off pics, here is an original 98k crate.

I'd like a crate to hold 10 if possible.

Im not so good at deviating from plans.
Would a stack one gun cab on its side work ?

The only plans I have are for the 6 crate. I’ll search more when I get home

t
Can you send me the complete plans for the 6 rifle case. I could make one of those and see how it turns out.
Any lines on the hardware?

Wonder what kind of bath they would dunk an entire rifle in prior to boxing for shipping? Preservative? Cosmoline?

t

Cosmo for sure or other type of preserving wax with a high melting point.
I wonder if SA museum would have and release blue prints for the wooden crates?

Try Army Barracks. I've had some luck with surplus ammo crates and and if I remember correctly, they had other stuff too....

Saw that same picture; sent an email. Saw lots of past crate pics on ArmsList. Signed up for that. Have a couple months down time to find one.

The Box is the easy part, the spacers, cleats, accessory spaces are what Im lacking in design

Im sure if you contact the collins foundation they have to have a few crates around that they could pattern for you.?

I have used the metal pick up truck boxes you can buy at Walmart or Tractor supply. They can hold up to 15 long guns easy and fit in the back of a sedan or on a trailer hitch carrier.

They make a hard plastic model as well. Here is the model number.
CONTICO Rolling Tool Box,32"W x 17"D x 12-1/4"H 1320BK-1

Strong option; $125 to ship and I’d have to refabricate the slotted inserts. They will get back to me with a price
