I am attending Appleseed in February.

I want a new 10/22 with a synthetic stock.

They have some at Dicks for $250. It is the one with the grey (stainless?) barrel.

I also want a scope.

What is the ultimate set-up for this?

Want to spend less than $350.

ANy advice would be helpful.

There's two - one is stainless and the other is stainless finish, (at least in our store). Both come with a scope mount, so you'll need rings, a scope or a red dot. Are you looking for magnified optics or a red dot, (or combination). Also, are you looking to spend under $350.00 for the entire set-up, or is that the budget for your scope?

They had the stainless finish for $250. Should I get the real stainless barrel?

I was planning on spending $350 for the gun and scope.

$100 for a scope/red dot. Any options like that that you would recommend?

One more thing... should I get synthetic or wood?

If your dead set on spending only 350 as well as changing the stock, your best bet as far as getting the most for your money is a set of tech sights.

Otherwise, the Mueller APV is a great scope...but budget about 120 for it alone.

If I was set on the stainless look, I would get the stainless. Although it's more glossy in stainless steel, the more dull marine coat-type finish they use seems to scratch easily. I haven't seen stainless offered in the wood stock option at Dicks, (though I think it is).

As for scopes, I'm not sure if your local Dicks has them, but the Simmons "22 Mag" seems like a nice optic for very short cash. Generally, I shy away from Simmons, but in this case, the "22 Mag" appears to be the exception to the Simmons avoidance rule. The glass seems very clear, good eye relief and a solid feeling build - all for $39.99. There's no need to go nuts on optics for a .22 - especially with this. I will be putting one on my 10/22. Here's a link to the scope if you can't find it at Dicks. We have a mix of the newer and older models, so make sure it says: "True Zero" or "QTA". The older ones are fine, but the newer models seem to be more feature packed. There really is no need to spend $100.00 on a rimfire scope - unless you're going to seriously compete....With the savings on this, you might even be able to sling it up. For me, I like the wood stock, but there are benefits to the synthetic...Anyway, here's the scope I think you should get:

Make sure to get a sling and swivels on that rifle before going. You'll get much more out of it with one.

I recommend a set of studs, then a set of detachable 1 1/4" swivels and a USGI type web sling, or a 1907 sling.
