Ok so I am getting my first gun, and, I want a .22 WMR. I keep hearing 10/22 magnum when I search for a .22wmr. how does that work? Is it just a 10/22 with a magnum magazine, and thats it, or am I missing something here?

The 10/22 magnum is a separate model from the regular 10/22. It's been discontinued for a couple years.

First off, welcome to NES and the shooting sports! Any particular reason you want the .22 magnum? The ammo is more expensive and may be hard to find and unless you are shooting groundhogs or big rats, it won't do anything else like target shooting/plinking any better than .22 rimfire (non-magnum). I would say just get the Ruger 10/22 (non-magnum) and have fun with it. There are all kinds of accessories available to make it into any configuration you can think of. Check out this forum for all the info on rimfire firearms you could ever need, http://www.rimfirecentral.com/. Of course, if you have your heart set on a .22 magnum, just ignore what I said and buy whatever you want, its your money!
