Ruger 1911 alert

Wow, the price on those things keeps going higher and higher. Glad I got mine when I did.

Yes..it does. Their big advantage was their price point at 699 or lower.....once they appoach the price of the Smith E series, they wont be so desireable anymore. I'm sure they'll sell them with the panic buying that's going on, but I'll sit back and wait a year....my guess it's once things shake out there will be a few around for sale.

I'd rather buy the Smith with the warranty.....and let the Ruger shake the bugs out. Plus with them churning out so fast quality may be an issue. Ruger makes a great gun but their warranty statement leaves you with not such a great feeling.

That's because dealers know that someone will pay it. When you want a specific gun the laws of supply and demand suck if there are not may around.

Well the $800 is full blown MSRP. I would never pay that for any gun, I don't care what it is. The SR1911 is an excellent gun. No issues with mine and I have almost 1,000 rounds through it already.

My friend sold his S&W E series to get one of these. I like plain jane 1911's. I see no point to all the frills they put on them now a days, and all the colors and everything else. Plain ol Government Model is my cup o tea. So, for me the S&W E series is at best, meh.

The main advantage of the E-Series is the front strap checkering. To add that after the fact is big money.

Both handguns are equally hard to come by right now. My belief is this is due to the fact that both are well built guns for the money.

I think one could also make arguments for the [STRIKE=strike]bobtail[/STRIKE] "round butt" & Sc frame options. I just like the way a round butt feels in my hand.

Yeah, I guess the checkering, or the bobtail isn't so bad. I am more referring to the gastly front & rear slide serrations or scallopping, a light rail, etc. To me, it's just too much. But hey, everyone likes something different.

There's no light rail on the ES series.

On the SW1911TA there is, but that is only one model in the line. My dad has one.

The only thing I really didn't like about the gun is the ambi safeties were fitted poorly, but that is common on a lot of guns. It is like whoever assembled the gun just slapped those on there. I had Lou @ BEC fix them for him, took him five minutes to make it the way it should have been from the factory!
