I've already got a MkIII 5.5" bull barrel and love it. It's setup for bullseye with a red-dot and target grips. It's great for bullseye but not so good for cheap iron sight practice or introducing new shooters to the sport. So I've decided to get another ruger and this time get a 22/45. It's lighter and has a more traditional grip which should help with the newbies. It's also only a touch over $200. I'm leaning towards a shorter barrel to give me a sight radius closer to a defensive handgun for practice purposes. I've got it narrowed down to the P4MKIII or the P45GCMKIII. The first one has adjustable target sights, and the second has fixed sights. I'm leaning towards the fixed sights based on my wanting to use this for defensive handgun practice. I'm wondering if get the fixed and don't like them can I swap them out later (like with the ones that aren't being used on my current mkIII)? In the research that I've done it looks like the rear sight is just in a dovetail and Midway lists the fixed rear sight for <$5. I can swap that out. However the front sight is a different height and some posts I've read indicate that the front sights aren't interchangeable. Does anyone know if the front sights on the two models are attached differently? Since these are the less popular versions of the mkIII's I don't think anyone has one in stock to look at.
