I recently purchased a new Ruger KP345. I was excited to take her to the
range and let lead fly. To my shock I experienced - bang, bang, click, bang, click [sad]

numerous misfires / FTF's. I was using Remington UMC ammo.

Took it home and gave her a thorough cleaning. Went shooting the next day. Same
thing. Numerous FTF. No FTL. Looking at rounds that did not fire and comparing
them to rounds that did fire I noticed inconsistencies with the firing pin.

Contacted Ruger. They got back to me within 24 hours. They recommended that I send it back to Prescott. They provided a UPS shipping label. Shipping it out tomorrow. Customer service has been good so far. A little upset about the out of box failure. Hopefully Ruger will right the wrong and fix my 45. They said 2-3 week turnaround.

I will update when I get her back.

WOW that sucks I am considering buying one but will now wait the outcome of your story. That's what forums are for right?

Looks awesome how is the grip? I am gonna go hold one tomorrow and see how it feels. I hear good things about Ruger and surprised to hear about this failure.

A little upset must be a understatement. Out-of-the-box failure has got to make you think "did I just get what I paid for". That being said they are priced nice

I was pretty upset after my first trip to the range. Oh well. Sometimes machines break out of the box. Hopefully ruger will do the
right thing and send me back a working pistol.

I had very good experience with Ruger customer service. There seemed to be some odd friction wear on the guide rod for my SR9c -- no apparent detriment to functionality, but I was a little concerned. I called just to ask about it b/c I wasn't really sure. The tech said he couldn't really know without seeing it, but he offered to replace it anyway. I had a brand new GR assembly in my hands 2 days later.

Good luck and be sure to let us know what happens.

By tonight she should be 35000 feet up heading to Prescott. Dropped her off today. I will keep you posted.

Sounds like it was dry fired without a mag. Either by you or at the gun store. These guns have issues with that, which most people dont know about.

There are several different designs that will prevent a pistol from firing unless a magazine is in place. Some companies use a trigger or sear disconnect design where pulling the trigger doesn't allow the hammer or striker to go forward. Ruger chose to use a firing pin / striker interrupt device where the pistol works like normal with or without a magazine and they depend on an interrupt plunger to block the firing pin / striker from moving forward to detonate the primer.

With Ruger's design, the firing pin or striker hits the interrupt plunger with considerable force (enough to detonate a primer). Repeated dry firing deforms both the firing pin and the interrupt plunger until one or both are peened so much they impede striker/firing pin movement. Once movement is restricted, you will get light or no primer hits resulting in misfires.

No other ammo tried. I bought a mega-pack when I purchased the gun.

I thought about the dry-firing thing. I knew of the dry-firing issue before I purchased the gun. I may have inadvertently done it once.
But if I did it once, the gun store did it once, the factory did it once…..

I did notice light or no primer hits. Of the 8 rounds in the magazine 6 rounds would fire fine, 2 would have hammer drop - no bang.
No consistency in the primer hit.
Very nice gun. Looks great, feels great in my hand. Can’t wait to get her back. I will definitely be more
vigilant about dry firing.

UPDATE: I got her back.

She came today. The whole process took less than two weeks. I would have had it earlier but missed UPS first
delivery.

Ruger replaced the barrel and camblock / recoil assembly. I shot about 50 rounds (wish I had more with me) and
did not have one FTF. I am very pleased with Ruger support and customer service. Upset that I had to send it to
Prescott in for first place but Ruger did the right thing and fixed it.

Excellent customer service. Another satisfied customer.
