Ruger LCRx 22 WMR Revolver 6rd

Conclusion
The muzzle flash and report of the .22 WMR cartridge fired in a three inch revolver barrel is similar to a centerfire revolver cartridge, but its recoil is much lighter. An adversary under fire from a .22 Magnum will not be thinking, "puny .22 rimfire." You can debate the effectiveness of the .22 Magnum as a defensive cartridge, but in our experience shooters familiar with the terminal performance of the .22 WMR rate the 40 grain JHP loads just below the .32 Magnums and .38 caliber revolver cartridges and ahead of the .25s and standard .32s. It is a wicked little cartridge.

Just a reminder that the biggest hit on any kind of rimfire for defensive use is that its less reliable than centerfire.

So if you are going to use rimfire for defense, the ONLY acceptable platform is the double action revolver.

That is because if you get a misfire, the fastest, most instinctive reaction, to squeeze the trigger again, is the correct remediation effort.

With a semi-auto or single action revolver squeezing it again does nothing and costs time. With a DA revolver the second squeeze swings the bad round out from under the hammer and brings a new round into play.
For what its worth, people have done ballistic gelatin tests on CCI Velocitor in .22 LR and its pretty impressive. Check YouTube.

It's crazy how much revolvers have increased in price over the last few years.
