I was thinking of getting a new rimfire pistol. After doing some research I settled on Ruger Mark III Target, but to my dismay I found that the Ruger Mark III is currently not Approved & Certified in MA. After talking to a clerk at my local firearms shop I found out that Ruger may be in the process of getting the Mark III Approved & Certified in MA. Does anyone know the full story as to what is going on?

Do an Advanced Search here for "Ruger" in the title. There is a lot of info on Ruger's stupidity wrt this matter.

That said, many shops sell them and no they are not "banned" in MA. Some shops bought the BS spewed by Ruger and their website, others didn't. They are still on the EOPS List even though Ruger requested their removal . . . GCAB told them that we don't do that.

GCAB? My acronym translator is failing on this one.

Unless Ruger is actively trying to make gun owners angry, why would they request a gun's removal from the EOPS list?

I got my MkIII by posting a WTB ad in the classifieds here. Took a few weeks but I found one locally.

Boston metro area.

No gun shops in Boston, they are banned.

You have to look further out than that. If they give you the BS "illegal", just move on and don't argue. Check the Gun Shop Review forum for names/contact info of various shops. I'll give you a random short list to try below:

- Precision Point - Woburn
- First Defense - Uxbridge
- B&K Sales - Natick
- Collectors - Woburn
- Silver City - Taunton
- gfaArmsTech - Natick

GCAB - Gun Control Advisory Board - they review all submittals and recommend to the Secretary of Public Safety who adds (or not) the guns to the approved EOPS List.

Stupidity on Ruger's part.

Add Hunters trading post in Weymouth... I've seen several their in the recent past.

Can also try:

H-S (Auburn) ... conveniently near the MA Pike
Pullman (Worcester)

I bought mine from a dealer on gunbroker. Had 2 local ffls tell me they're banned. Found one that said it was fine and to have it shipped to him.

Collector's in Stoneham has had a few 22/45's or regular MKIII's in the case in recent weeks. There are a few MA FFL's that claim they are banned. No sense arguing with them, just visit another shop.

The full story is a cluster**** of epic proportions, but that doesn't matter to you as a consumer. Just keep looking for the gun you want and ignore the compliance issue. The operative words are "Can you transfer me one in if you can't get it?" etc, etc... keep it simple and less brutal.

I bought a Hunter almost 2 years ago from a guy on Gunbroker who lived just over the border in Stratham, NH? Met him at Bob's Tactical in Salisbury and did the transfer.

I've seen a few advertsied on the Gun Parlor's Facebook page over the last few months.

THey also carry them at Northshore Firearms on Rte 114 in Middleton. There are also several for sale including a target model right here on NES.

There are still people on this site that will shop there? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Yeah, North Shore Firearms does advertised the Ruger Mark III on their web site in the Whats New and New Semi-Auto Pistols sections. I went up their last weekend. They were nice enough, but they only had a single Mark III Standard in stock, which I passed on. I felt like kicking myself for not calling before driving all they way up there.

The next week I did find a new Mark III Target, which I scooped up. I took it to my local range twice later that week. I got to say that I like the pistol a lot.
