I'm really tired of this gun. It's been nothing but problems since I bought it. It's been to Ruger factory and back once already. Now today I shipped it back a second time for a broken rear adjustable sight. I've decided to make a small project out of the piece of junk, and if the project ends up bad I'm dropping off the gun at the police station and having it destroyed. It's clearly cursed. Here is the currently configuration:

and here is what I'm looking to do:

In the second photo, he actually sanded off the factory 22/45 "built in" grips, installed genuine 1911 grip bushings and put 1911 Hogue finger groove grips on it. This will be perfect to match my current 1911 with Hogue finger groove grips. Also installed are Hi-Viz sights. Here is a link to the entire process for removing the factory built in Ruger 22/45 grips:

I'm hoping once I get the grips installed I'll enjoy shooting it a little more. If not, off to the classifieds it goes.

More pics as parts start arriving.

Thanks for the links.

I hate the thing so I have no problem taking a DA sander to it after it comes back from Ruger to do the grip mod. I will post pics when it's done.

I'd have to say yes. While the Mark III shoots dead accurate out of the box, things like field stripping it and cleaning it are an absolute nightmare. It will feed any ammo you give it though. I'm betting you could drop a box of federal bulk pack in the sand and then feed it through.

Field strip and cleaning really aren't bad if you follow the directions. Also, I only clean mine every 1000-2000 rounds if that, and it runs fine.

What a piece of junk! Putting a new grip on it should help...[wink]

It's just a toy at this point. I have too many other nicer firearms to worry about this thing. I figure taking a grinder to a firearm should be fun. Once i have it back from Ruger I'm never field stripping it again.

After many scraped knuckles and blisters I have discovered the secrets to field stripping and reassembling it. After about 75 rounds it begins to jam a bit, but that's using typical cheap dirty Winchester, Remington etc. The front sight keeps loosening but I bought some lock tight for it.

It's fun to shoot and very accurate, but I'd get something other than the Mark III if I had a chance to do it all over again. It's over engineered.

What is that abomination? I'd never do that to a mark 3.

That is the archangel kit. They are made for the Ruger 10/22 and the Charger pistol. It wasn't my idea, as I am not fond of it on a pistol either, maybe on a rifle. It's supposed to make a tactical weapon that you can attach optics and other accessories to via the multiple rails mounted on it. The 10/22 version is pretty cool.
