Does anyone have any experience with the earlier Markii model 22/45's?

I've been looking for a nice Ruger but my options seem limited since they got pulled off the shelves. I have found a few nice older models but aside from esthetics and the lack of LCI and magazine safety disconnect; I don't know much about them.

I know the standard mark ii's have the heel magazine removal level. I'm not a big fan of that but the 22/45 models have them on the side of the frame.

i have a 22/45 mark III and i love it. removing the mag disconnect isn't too difficult. tandemkross makes a bushing specifically for the job. the other mod I made to my 22/45 mark iii was installing a fiberoptic front sight but this was super easy. the LCI is +/-, i ended up replacing my with the tandemkross spacer (fill-in piece) but the LCI really isn't a big deal. IMO the major reason to remove it is possibly snagging on holster but i never carry/holster my 22/45.

seriously though don't let the annoying "safety" features of the mark iii keep you away from it....it's pretty easy to make the mark iii into a dignified gun (in fact i've sold all my other 22lr handguns and kept only my 22/45 mark iii cuz I love it that much).

pullman in Worcester and FS in Woburn usually have the 22/45 mark iii models around. mine is 5.5" barrel which i dig...but they're all nice.

the mark ii is sweet too...don't get me wrong....but people are charging so much for them now it's kinda absurd.

THIS.

+1 for tandemkross too, they're in NH

ETA: I dremeled down my "grips" to custom install 1911 grips on it. Ruger, I believe on later models made replaceable grip panels.

If you look at what ruger now has listed on their website, there are models that will take 1911 grip panels...but some of them still have them molded into the frame.

Yeah i wish i had the model w changeable grips....that would be nice. I ended up just putting a pachymayr grip sleeve to fit my fat hand and seems to do the trick.

grabagun.com has a bunch of 22/45 models, most FFLs here will transfer one.

I followed the suggestions here and am going to a local place tomorrow morning. I feel kinda dumb not checking with them first but I rarely go in the store anymore and just assumed they yanked them off the shelves.

I found a pretty good deal on a mark ii 22/45 a couple months ago. Stainless target model with factory box and 2 mags for a very fair price. The gun was FILTHY when I got it home to give it a good cleaning. Likely hadn't been cleaned much in its 20 years of existence. They are out there if you look for them.

I ended up picking up one today. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it this weekend.

congrats.

if its a mark iii model dont be discouraged by the crappy magazine retention/insertion/release....once the mag disconnect is removed then the gun works perfectly. not to mention it will eat ammo that even the SR22 wont run

They are nice pistols. I had mine out for the first time in quite a while over the weekend and realized I needed to address the grips. Mine has the molded grips.
I introduced it to my Bridgeport and shaved off grips flush with the frame and I'll be drilling and tapping for Hogue wrap around grips. Just waiting for the bushings and screws to show up. I'll make my own bushing to delete the mag safety and modify the bolt stop so it releases when the bolt is racked.

They were not on the supreme overlord's list for a while.

NOT true at all. All that was Ruger's doing and GCAB refused to play along (and delete them from the EOPS Roster which is what Ruger demanded)!

Why would these have been pulled from dealer shelves? What did I miss?

word on the street was that ruger didn't want to sell them into MA anymore. I don't know why. the staff at FS mentioned to me they couldn't get them directly from ruger so they had to switch distributor or whoever supplies them to somebody who didn't care about ruger's obscure plans to deprive MA of their 22 handguns. freaking weird. who knows how much of this is correct, it's just what i heard and since i'm posting it on the internet it must be true.

I need some warranty work done on mine, I wonder how this affects that.
