I failed to properly re-assemble my MK III after a detail strip.

Upon restoration of the receiver and grips I tried to dry fire. I felt some movement towards the top of web of my hand. Is this normal? It cocked and fired, apparently.

However, the safety switch does not have the freedom of movement to engage the safe position. Some times it will go safe. Other times it will not go safe. It also does not retain locked in the safe position. It will only stay in the Fire position.

It seems to be no better after a second try...Plus, I have now lost the retention ball on the safety piece. Do I order a whole safety piece (#34) ?

Is this probably my only problem?

Is it alright to feel a little bit of something move near the web of my hand when it fires?

What is the cheapest and easier way at this stage to end the pain of the magazine disconnect and have proper functioning?

What should I do?

thanks

I'm not sure about the safety, I don't use mine [wink]. As for removing the magazine disconnect you need to order this or this. However, if you're having trouble detail stripping it I'd seek some help putting one of these. Unfortunately they are both back-ordered and have been for some time. I'm not sure about the web movement, I'm heading out the door otherwise I'd take mine out of the safe and check.

I like to have everything functioning properly. I have been debating about the potential of removing the LCI as well.

The safety is never engaged on the range. The gun comes out of the bag and is placed on the table with it facing down range. I shoot on bullseye command. Afterwards I put it away. I never put the safety on. However, I would like to have the safety switch working. It seems that I have lost the ball. I don't know if this is the entire problem.

The magazine disconnect is frustrating when trying to clear the weapon after a jam. You can not remove the magazine easily. So for a safety standpoint, I think it might be better to remove the disconnect lever and spring.

I think that I just need this mk II bushing as you mentioned(I could not find it on midway without the link. I kept looking elsewhere for ruger parts) to keep the spacing, right.

I think that I shall call prescott and see if they can ship immediately.

thanks

I have a MkIII that I have converted so that I don't have to have a mag disconnect..... Has been some time since I did it but it seems that I had to replace both the bushing and the hammer as well with the MKII versions.... Did mine as part of an upgrade using Volquartsens upgrade kit..... Trigger, sear, hammer etc except I used MKII instead of the MKIII and everything was drop in...

Left the LCI since it wasn't much trouble and I wasn't sure with what to do with the gap that would have been left....

Hope this helps....

OK, checked my gun and confirmed that I did have to replace both the bushing and the hammer with MKII versions..... This enabled me to lose the entire mag disconnect assy which it into a recess cut into the MKIII hammer.... This mod also allows me to use either MKII or MKIII mags....

Hope this helps....

Found a MKII parts booklet and you might be able to order the hammer and busing directly from Ruger.... Did this with all the parts for my mags since at the time anyway it was cheaper to build them than it was to buy them fully assembled....

Anyway, the part numbers are:

Hammer assy (complete)# A01801-100
Hammer Bushing# A02505

Good luck.....;- )
