At the end of May I got a Ruger MKIII 22/45. It was the model with the 4.5 inch slab barrel. I put about 600 rounds through it, cleaning it about every 300 rounds. For those of you who don't know, stripping it down is somewhat of a pain in the ass. The manual even suggests using a "plastic or wooden mallet" to aid in the process. Well on reassembly in order to align the frame to the receiver the manual again calls for the mallet if hand pressure will not do. After several minutes of trying with my hands alone I grabbed my rubber faced plastic mallet and *crack* the Zytel(plastic!) frame cracked. It was superficial, but over the years would have developed into something serious. I sent it back to Ruger (which cost me about 60 bucks) and they replaced the frame no questions asked for free. Sent it back to me 9 business days. A lot of companies could have nickel and dimed me or cried foul saying I didn't use the right mallet or whatever. IMO don't design a gun that requires hitting a plastic frame with a mallet, but hey they were good about it.

I'll never do anything with my MKIII again except shoot it. I disassembled it once, and ended up shipping it back to the factory. It's a job for the skilled, not for me. [sad2]
