I've been a member of Andover sportsmens club for a little over a year and am less than pleased. I need a club that's less strict an you don't have guys critiqing your every move.
Need suggestions for a club that drawing from a holster or doing magazine changes isnt frowned upon. Does everwhere think silhouette targets are evil?

I live in Salem mass, any suggestions?

+1 for Harvard. I too live in Salem and its not as far as you think. 45 min unless you go at a retarded traffic time.
Also I belong to CASC in Gloucester. It is pretty easy on rules and there is never anyone there during the week.
Be happy to go up to Gloucester some afternoon for a little hip fire action if you want. PM me if interested.

Also if you want to do an IDPA prectice at Harvard in Wednesday afternoons ill drive. That's free and fun and you will want to join there after one day.

+3 for Harvard, just joined myself, new shooter...today was my first day on the ranges. Everyone is very nice, friendly and good for exchanging tips and information, as a new shooter, i like that...others may not, but in any case it's a great club, 7,25,50,65,100,200,300yard ranges...Class 3 range, shotgun range, indoor range, action pits. Great Club!

And for everyone who thinks jhagberg88 is being dramatic, this is an image of the 25-100 yard range rules sign at andover. That's 21 different rules on the board with eye and ear protection being #21. They put the rule about obeying the yellow safety gate over eyes and ears... Note the second pic and that disclaimer is not stated with any hint of irony. There are more than 21 rules that apply.

I was there today and they went ballistic over a silhouette target. [banghead]

Well I was planning on joining the ASC but this may sway me. I know how to handle and shoot a gun safely, I certainly would not appreciate being micro managed by gun safety superheros.

Most clubs won't allow drawing from a holster for safety reasons. Harvard of course has the berms at their steel range that will allow that sort of practice. They were set up to do that at Pelham back a while ago, don't know if they still have it. Most of us who have been around shooting a while have seen people have all sorts of ADs while doing their draw work. This is one safety rule I don't mind when I'm at the general pistol range.

AfAIK the silhouette with a head is only a no no at Andover as the club has its own class a license. So it should not be a problem at other clubs. A friend just joined Hamilton/ wenham gun club and was told no such restriction there
