My gun dealer says he will give me a really good deal on a s and w 1911. I am looking for a low end s and w 1911. A few guys say around $850.00 He will have order it. He is calling on Tue. Thank for you help

Have you searched the NES Classified? I saw a scandium 1911 on there yesterday, I believe. It was in your price range.

Magoo - the S&W's are - from what I gather - are very nice shooters

Prices range on models so without knowing which model you're looking at specifically, it's hard to say if the price is good or not. I suggest you look around for prices

North Shore Firearms, Collectors, FSGuns are the usual suspects on the North Shore but don't forget Gun & Sport North & the guy over in Lowell... I think all have web sites and post up prices on at least some of their inventory.

Good luck

My first gun I ever bought was a S&W 1911. I love it very much and it goes with me everywhere. Its a great choice. I paid $825.00 brand new

the S&W 1911 might be the finest handgun i've shot. it's a smooth operator for sure. anything in the under 900 range is a good deal IMO.

You've got to get out more my friend.

The S&Ws are decent guns, although lots of people have had trouble with the Scandium ones (plunger tube falling off).

just what i like. biggest complaint i hear is cosmetic, with the external extractor. doesn't bother me, doesn't affect it's shooting characteristics.

I don't like the external extractor, when the spring weakens, it can drop the last round into the mag instead of ejecting

I love my S&W 1911. Not the prettiest 1911 cosmetically but it shoots just as well if not better than many of the "high-end" 1911's. I paid just shy of a grand for mine at Four Seasons but I ordered it with factory installed CR grips which obviously drove the price up drastically. Many are available both new and used in your price range

Would you pick a low end surgeon for life threathening surgery?

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think magoo ever mentioned using it as a carry piece.
Some people just want a gun to hit the range with.
That said, I've got ~500 flawless rounds through my base S&W 1911, and would trust it to be carried.

Since when is S&W considered low end? It shoots just as well as any Colts, Springfields, and higher-end 1911's I've come across while (for the most part) being MORE reliable. I have never had a malfunction with mine and it's what I carry

I want it to shot holes in paper. A lot of my friend say get the base ones with target sights. I can get a auto ordnance. But I think I wouldn't be happy with it. My gun dealer said he would get me a killer deal on a smith. Because he said rock island that I paid for was mass ok.It was not ok. He said he would sell me a used auto ord. price was almost the same as new one. I told him he is way off on price. He gave me a price on s and w It was like over $850.00 I said I can get them a little over $800.00 He said his cost was $850.00 . He said he would sell it to me for $850.00. I told him I want my money back. Getting check on Fri. I may look for a used colt. I can always get a s and w any time. More than likely I will get a s and w It will be my 1st 45 i may look at sigs. Thanks for your help

First off, check your grammar before posting. You'll be taken a bit more seriously.

Second, sounds like you need to find yourself a new dealer. Not sure what part of the state you're from but check out Four Seasons in Woburn. They used to be local for me but I'm now in the Western part of the state and they're still worth the 2 hour drive to me. Some of the best prices and friendliest service around.

With that said, you'll be hard pressed to find a NEW S&W 1911 for under $850 (and that's the all stainless base model). I suggest buying one used either off gunbroker or someone on this forum

Plus the scandiums have the pleasant habit of ejecting the brass into your face

This happened to me the second time I brought my 1911ES to the range. It took me by surprise! Glad I have good eye protection... I am going to post to see if this behavior can be corrected haha.

I did got a price from Four Seasons. The man there said $839.95 with combat sights. I think that price will be hard to match.

Whenever I am looking to buy a new firearm, I cannot find any place in MA that beats the prices at Four Seasons, even on ammo. Although when I don't, or can't make it all the way out to Four Seasons (an hour drive for me each way) I go to a local shop with equally great service.

The case in the eye problem tends to only affect some of the scandium framed models (and I also think mostly the commander sized vs the full sized models). I've also heard that for the most part S&W is very good at fixing this problem. Most will agree their customer service is bar none which is usually half the reason I will buy from one manufacturer vs. another. A close second would be the overall reliability. Cosmetics is the least of my concerns. Do you think the bad guy is going to care what your gun looks like?

Compared to my uncle's Kimber my S&W looks nearly identical in fit and finish. I've shot his Kimber and the S&W is just as accurate and more reliable (okay so the Kimber failed to return to battery once...no hiccups with the S&W though).

I just bought a S+W 1911 for 850. I called around and they were all within 20 bucks. All the reviews I read before I bought said out of the box the S+W 1911 is one of the best 1911's you can buy! I have no regrets. I changed the grips with some from CTD for 28 bucks and picked up a couple 10 round mag's. I love mine!!
