i came across a s&w 13-2 today, good looking .357, no scratches gouges or other marks on it. has a 4" bbl. can people school me on this particular model? and tell me what a reasonable price would be? thanks in advance....

Big ass "K" frame, not great sights compared to say the Model 19, but I had one and loved it!

It is the next step up from the good old fashioned Model 10 revolver that cops carried forever.

Shoots .357 Mag ammo, in addition to everything available in .38 Spl.

I'd drop 4 bills on one sight unseen, more if it was a great specimen.

Buy it you'll love it

I'd agree with all of Glockaholic's guidance. It's basically a 4" K-frame model 10, but with the advantage of being able to also shoot .357 mag. The 13-2 still has the pinned barrel (which is important to collectors if you ever want to move it). The fixed sights are fine and it has historically served as a great home protection or camping gun (especially for men with physical limitations or women who have trouble pulling back the slide on a semi-auto).

$400 (give or take $100, depending on condition/accessories) is right on price wise.

It's a great gun, grab it.

If you ever come across a 3" version, grab that one also. A very good carry piece.

thanks for the info so far....now can someone tell me what models it may match, accessory wise? for example, if i am looking for grips and can't find 13-2 specific grips is there another model i could look for that the grips would also fit this gun? or is a k frame universal? (if it fits 1 k frame it will fit them all....) thanks again. keep the great info coming.

Well, it will fit the same grips as a 10,64,65, ETC. You can't go wrong with the old S&W wheel guns.

It's a K-frame. About the only difference is whether it is a round or square butt. Almost all 4" models are a square butt but I believe there were a few round butt versions made in the mid to late 90's.

picked up the gun today. upon closer inspection, the bluing is a little worn near the end of the barrel and there is a small scratch near the rear sight, but considering that it was made in 1980 and it was half the price glockaholic mentioned above i think i got a decent deal. can't wait to send some rounds downrange with it.
one thing i did notice is that it's just a little too big to fit in the handgun safe in my room, so i guess i will have to buy something else to put in there instead.....[smile] [wink]

If you got it for $200, that's a steal. I had Greg Derr do a fair bit of work on one of my k-frames (trigger job, repair pitting, chamfer the charge holes, etc.) and he did very nice work.

^ there were 2 available at that price. i am kicking myself for not buying both......it was one of those deals where i just happened to wander into the shop while they were being cleaned, they had just come in on a trade. i had the guy tag one of for me and by the time i called back later to tell him i wanted both the other one was already gone [crying]. anyways, what speedloader do you guys suggest for this? the safariland or hks?

(fyi: i was shown the "blue book" pricing and it ranged from $100 for like-junk to $375 for like-new.)
