Fairly new (about 200 rds) S&W 1911 Pro Series is intermittently misfeeding the last round in the mag, roughly 1 of every 4 mags or so. What gives?

When I was breaking in my E series 5", it would do that, problems feeding last round of the mag, but....only with Federal bulk box stuff. Have no clue why. It would go up the feed ramp and jam. Anything else was flawless. 200-250 rounds in, for whatever reason problem cleared itself up. I'm around 1800 rds in now and no issues at all.

who knows, you didn't exactly give us a lot of info to go on.

How about some more details on the jam? where is the round? the slide? maybe a picture

My apologies, and thank you for replying... Pistol is a 5" scandium lower. Jam is in the slide, jamming the last round only between the partially closed slide and feed ramp at about a 60 degree angle. Remington 230 gr. FMJ only so far. Have tried both factory mags, and doesn't appear exclusive to either one. Always solid gription (yes, I made that word up) so no limp-wrist errors. It's as reliable as death & taxes thru 7 rounds... until you get to the 8th.

And Bolio... you'd have a hard time convincing me to part with it. I'm not saying it's a special firearm... but to look down the fiber sights and set in motion its pure fury is to touch the very soul of John Moses Browning, and anyone who dares to disagree is a godless, soulless, heathen heretic savage not worthy of a split seconds whiff of its holy exhaust.

Hope that helps.

sounds like it is a mag issue. The last round may no becoming up fast enough or high enough. Possibly the follower is bumping the slide release causing it to drag the slide. I would try a known reliable mag.

Try different mags and then go from there. (might be a good idea to mark the mags with numbers and tape or something, to keep track of failures).

And what would constitute a "known reliable mag" exactly, over and above what they shipped with it? Is there an aftermarket solution that has proven more functional?

I've marked both factory mags #1 & #2 respectively, and both have failed in the same manner. If there's a reliable alternative, I'm all ears & wallet.

generally feeding is a mag issue, extractraction is the gun. call S&W

if need be send the mags back of all of it. if you do be sure to include

a letter that explains the problem your having completely.

you could try someone else's mags and/or have them try yours in their gun. I'll use my mags in your gun for a chance to shoot it! [smile] I'll let you shoot my 1911Sc.

What ammo were you shooting. I've heard of WWB and Federal .45 that's been out of spec. No first hand knowledge of this but I WAS getting FTFs with my Smith 1911es and chalked it off to the gun needing cleaning (I was torture testing it). It MAY have been the ammo. If I get anymore I'm going to take some measurements.

That would be Remington 230 gr. FMJ only so far.
