Ok so I have a S&W 460 performance center, and while cleaning it the other day the cylinder assembly fell out on to my work bench(no harm done), and upon further investigation I found out it was the small little detent pin in the hollow screw on the right side of the gun. My question is, can I fire the gun as is or will it fail? The cylinder locks up and rotates normally and the timing is correct. And can I get it fixed without returning it to S&W? Or what is my best course of action? Can I buy the pin myself and just install it? The only reason I ask is because I'm supposed to go sight in a scope before I take off for a pig hunt next week.

Thanks for all your help
Sean

Call S&W and have them send you a new front sideplate screw. That screw also holds the crane (the L shaped part on which the cylinder spins) from falling out of the gun when you open the cylinder.

Yes, the gun will work without that screw but it is not a good idea to push your lock. The sideplate needs to be flush and tight on the frame to keep the many moving parts in there operating without the possibility of binding.

Once you get the new screw, it's a 15 second job to reinstall it.
