S&W 52-2 problem

I have a 52-2 that will not set the hammer after firing a shot. Any ideas???

Any long distance diagnosis is an exercise in speculation (and, thus, not worth all that much), but: if that pistol has been sitting around for a bunch of years (a common fate of M52s), it may be that the disconnector is frozen. Strip, clean well, and lube, and see what happens.

If I hold the triiger pulled and cycle the slide by hand, the hammer will not set. What is it that lets the hammer and sear reset by the action of the slide moving to the rear?
